Touring - Adirondak Park Loop

Has anyone here posted a blog or journal on that ride? I'm planning a summer tour and this is one of the possibilities. I found one in crazyguy but am looking for something more discriptive.

I'd been looking at this loop too and wondering if anyone had done it and posted their experiences online.

While I've not cycled the route, I have riden many of the roads on my motorcycle, and I spend a fair amount of time in the Adk hiking and canoeing. First, unless you like to be eaten alive, do not ride the route from mid May thru the end of June. The Black Flies will do you in. Its beautiful route and the roads generally have nice wide shoulders, there's not much traffic, though summer is prime tourism season, so towns will be much busier. Speaking of towns, they are the only places you will find any services. There's nothing between them but beautiful scenery. In summer, campgrounds/hotels may be full all week, so it may be best to at least check out the availabilty in your planned stopping points. The riding is rolling hills, but there are some short steep rises here and there to make things interesting.

scroll to the bottom. i rode this last september after labor day. totally empty of tourists. not many campgrounds. gets very steep for short distances.

I rode the Adirondack loop 2008 with a friend. We started from Albany and and went to Saratoga Springs, Lake George, Tupper Lake, Durant Lake and Boonville. Then we picked up the Erie Canal route and headed west to Rochester. The two weeks included Labor Day weekend at which time traffic was heavy but for the most part it was fairly light. There were some mosquitoes though not too bad. We used Adventure Cycling Association maps and found them to be good, however it seemed like a lot of the roads were not marked. What's up with that NY?

It was a grand trip, scenic, historic locals friendly and accomodating. Have a great ride!

I haven't posted a journal but I've toured around the park extensively and I'd be happy to try and answer any questions you have.

The park is huge. I've been touring in it, off and on, for years and still haven't seen everything. I love the Adirondack museum and the Lake Placid area. The shoulders are great, traffic is relatively light, the scenery is fantastic, wildlife is everywhere(including bears), and lots and lots of climbing. Plenty of campgrounds, and tons of stealth camping opportunities if that's your flavor. The AC maps are great, but not really a must in this particular area.

Thanks everyone. We have a change of plans that have us riding in Canada, from Buffalo NY to Montreal. We will ride Bike Rt. 9 back to Albany and are taking a detour to Lake Placid and Keene Valley to do some touristy stuff.

I did ride that part of the park years ago and it was difficult getting up that mountain.
