I'm looking for a bike to ride on the paved bike trail around here, and if I start getting into it more the light wooded trails around here. The two bikes I was looking at were the sport disc, and the base model hardrock from 2009. Obviously the base model isn't as nice, but would someone who is just doing light/moderate riding need a lot more?

The things I would like are the disc brakes, and the double walled wheels. I don't know if I need them, but I would like them if they are worth the $150 more.

Thanks for any input.

The 150 dollars for the double wall rims and disc brakes is worth it! Do it.

Posting in the clyde's forum means you're 200+ pounds, and the simple fact of reality is that popping a curb/lip/landing on a rock/insert action here is going to be quite hard on that rear wheel. And disc's, well, I just like disc's.

I have a Rockhopper and am in the process of buying new wheels and a disc brake kit to upgrade it. I'd gladly spend 150 dollars more and start off with it all. But, I already have the Rockhopper, and it was a great price!

The only reason I'd say not to do it is if you honestly don't think you'll end up riding the bike much. If you do, then you might as well look at it as an investment and time-savings.

Is your screen name refering to TCU? If so let me know if you want to ride after you get your bike. The double walled rims are needed if you are going to ride off road with it. The disk brakes aren't really needed, I have a disk on front of my mountain bike, but only because the fork didn't come with V brake studs. For paved trail riding, you'd be fine with the base model and have the shop swap out the suspension for for a rigid.
