Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Ok before the curses begin. I'm relatively scant on my mechanical knowlege and I try to learn what I can from where I can. I've been noticing some road "gunk" build up on my rear derailer and was considering giving it a blast with some Gumout which always seems to clean up any mech part I have. How adiviseable is this?
I wouldn't. It would probably be just fine, but I just use a rag on the outside and ignore the inside, unless i need to spray the derailleur with WD-40 for rust.

Be careful with Gum out. It can seep into bearings and wash away the grease.
