Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Ok before the curses begin. I'm relatively scant on my mechanical knowlege and I try to learn what I can from where I can. I've been noticing some road "gunk" build up on my rear derailer and was considering giving it a blast with some Gumout which always seems to clean up any mech part I have. How adiviseable is this?
I wouldn't. It would probably be just fine, but I just use a rag on the outside and ignore the inside, unless i need to spray the derailleur with WD-40 for rust.

Be careful with Gum out. It can seep into bearings and wash away the grease.
