This issue comes in three parts~

PART ONE:

There was a sale rack with a large sign that said "RUSSELL ATHLETICS 50% off lowest marked price, excluding those ending in .97"

So I grabbed:

2 RussellCapri workout pants, with the original price of $19.99 and a red sticker under it that said $9.98
2 Russell Tank tops, with the original price of $16.99 and a red sticker under it that said $12.98.

My question for this part is, how much do you see the price being for each item, if going by the signage?

Thank you. You see it the same way I do. Red sticker was right underneath the original sticker, both could be seen easily.

PART TWO:

My friend bought the same items, but was in line before me. When it came to MY turn, the clerk (Leah) rang up the tank top for $8.49. Before she got to the next item, I interrupted and told her that I think they were priced at 50% off of the lowest marked price. She told me that the discount was off of the ORIGINAL price. I told her noooo, I do believe it's off the LOWEST marked price, according to the sign. And the red sticker says $12.98. Would it be 50% off of that? She said no, it's off of the original price. Again, I went over what the sign said.

I told her I was wondering if there was a mistake. She shrugged her shoulders and said that it rung up what it rung up and that's the price. I was lucky to be getting it cheaper than the $12.98 and THAT in itself is a mistake. I told her that if she looked at the sign, she would see what I mean. She told ME to get the sign. "Go get me the sign, then."

I come back with the sign. In the mean time she takes other customers and I have to wait at the end of the line again, after 4 customers. When I finally get up to her again, I show her what it says. She points to the .97 and she says smiles and said "Did you see this part?" I said to her "Yes I did but the red sticker says .98 not .97. She said, "Well, I'm not going to change it, I'm not authorized. This is the price."

Okay at this point I can either be all crazy, jump that counter and give her a red hand print on her face or try to maintain my cool.

What do you think I did?

I concur, $22.96 total (add tax if applicable)

and for 2nd part...

Hide stuff in the store (with sign and all) and come back later to try with a different cashier.... or just try a different cashier right away if available.

PART 3:

ME: "You mean to tell me that you aren't going to honor your own sign? Can you explain to me where I'm not understanding this? I'm not meaning to challenge you, I just want to understand"

LEAH: "I already told you, it's half off the ORIGINAL price"

ME: "But it says half off the lowest price marked and this red sticker is lower than the original price."

LEAH: "I already told you, I'm not going to change it"

ME: "May I please talk to your manager and maybe he can explain your signs to me better."

Manager comes, I explain the issue, and he agrees with what the signage reads and says to me "We can adjust that for you, no problem" I smiled and thank him. Leah gives me the dirtiest look. During the transaction she was curt with me, she didn't apologize (I honestly didn't expect one from her), and she dogged me big time. I thanked her and and again thanked the manager.

My friend, who paid for hers first, asked for an adjustment also and he tells Leah to do it for her. But with my friend, Leah not only is rude, but asked for her ID, wrote some info down from it and literally threw her refund on the counter. I mean TOSSED that money down. I was outside of the store at this point, knowing that I should remove myself because of the looks she gave me.

I was still upset about that treatment by Leah but happy about her manager.

What would you do?

Meh, let Leah live. She really was in no position to do anything and she already suffered enough by looking Death in the eye. She did seem rude as she was giving the refund for the difference but she was probably intimidated. The manager was the only one who could do anything.

Move on with life. You paid the correct price. The cashier's demeanor is her own problem, not yours.

It's my problem if I ever want to buy products from that store again. I shouldn't have to put up being treated like this.

Look, I certainly understand that she couldn't make the adjustment but there were a few things I thought weren't cool.

1. She told ME to get the sign and didnt' call another employee to get it or help her when the line was getting long, making customers wait, and making me wait in line again to show her the sign.
2. She kept insisting it was a discount on the ORIGINAL price, despite the sign plainly saying being off the lowest marked price.
3. She told me that I was lucky to even get the price it scanned at, and that I should be paying higher.
4. She kept giving me dirty looks, and smirking at me as if she were in control here.
5. She didn't offer to get a manager to explain it to me better.
6. She threw the money at my friend to the point that it slid across the counter.
7. She asked for my friend's ID, not mine. Why did she do that?

Oh and another thing that I forgot to mention. When my friend was getting her refund, the manager told her that the sign should have been pulled on Sunday. If Leah would have explained that, I would have been more than happy to pay the $12.98. I do understand about price changes and sale dates and how it's in the system to scan when the sales are changed. I have to input my prices for my produce the same way. I honestly would have been cool with that.

But the way she treated us. I just didnt' feel good the way she looked at us. And her actions....she was snippy the whole time. I had to leave when my friend was getting hers taken care of. I really didn't want to go off on her. And I was just about to. But the manager was nice so I didn't want to do that.

All in all if she would have said to me, "I'm sorry but the ad was over and we forgot to pull this one down", I would have been happy to pay whatever it scanned at.
