BMX - Convert this steel Kona to a BMX style bike?

Sorry kids, cover your eyes!

I'm an over 30 road and mountain rider and I picked this smaller framed MTB up.

Old School KONA steel frame and am wondering what to do with it.

I've been thinking of getting a BMX for messing with on the weekends.

So with a nice strong but light steel rigid like this I was thinking why not drop the seat down, convert to SS and get some riser bars and BMX stem and make it into a big BMX style bike?
It would easily be a cruiser and I see more MTB style dirt bikes and I'd be able to raise the seat to hit some flowing XC trails on the SS.

I'm not sure it'd be good for screwing around BMX style though. Learning a few dumb tricks while my son rides his bike etc.

Or should I just sell it off and get a real BMX?

Go for it. Sounds like a fun project.

I think if you tried doing anything more than a small hop, those chain and seat stays would snap right off of that rear dropout.

I'd sell it and start fresh.

I'm starting to think I'll just sell it as well. I have a full suspension Trek MTB already so I should really just get the real BMX.

I say do it! And get a proper BMX bike as well :)
I did the same thing a couple years back to my old GT MTB. It's a fun bike, but nowhere near as fun as either my Sunday 24" BMX bike or my Sunday 20" BMX bike. I spend most of my time on my 20", but it's nice having the MTB SS to cruise around on.

I need to build a shed just to give me more room... for more bikes.
I'm going to see if this sells for a decent profit. If not, then no big deal, I still have a nice SS to play with.
With higher riser/cruiser bars I think it'd be a lot more tossable than it felt.
