In a departure from my musical norms this week..

Hopefully my new wheel is done, I'll pick up my tire, lament at the cost and ride until I pass out.

Oh you can all just kiss off into the air
Behind my back I can see them stare
They'll hurt me bad, but I don't mind
They'll hurt me bad, they do it all the time...

I made more money off of 'Blister in the Sun' than any other song that I have ever played. At 10min till bar close, that song was GOLD! I'd get a ring of hot girls around me (who weren't tipping their busker) dancing and singing. The outer ring around all of them was a bunch of guys that wanted them, and buying drinks was no longer an option, so showing financial prowess by throwing down 5s and 10s was how they out-competed each other.

I'd end up with over $100 in my guitar case on that one song.

Violent Fem Fridays ROCK!!!!

not to be the bearer of bad news, but.

I'll be the first to complain about the surly "new" hub. Today i took the tire off while working on the bike, and something fell from the bike onto my foot. Curious, I looked down, and after a few moments of anxious searching, found half a locknut on the ground. One of the locknuts on the hub just broke in half....
Maybe I had the wheel tightened on too hard, but the hub is only 4 months old. Of course, the LBS replaced the locknut for nothing (they built the wheel), but still. If I'm not mistaken, its the first thing i've heard go wrong with a surly hub here on the forums. Thank god it didn't break off while i was riding, i might have thrown the whole tire (now that would SUCK).

Better luck, and get down with your violent self.

That outer nut really needs to be replaced. I've broke them too, and it's a pretty common problem. It probably wouldn't have came off when you were riding, though (if it's the bolt I'm thinking of) I think the wide flat bolts surly ships are prone to breaking.

I've broken a couple, and didn't know it until I took the rear wheel off. As long as there is tension on the tracknuts, they probably aren't going anywhere... But they're not a very good thing to have on there either.

I move that we all petition Surly and ask them to use low flange nuts that don't crack when you put too much pressure on them. I really think that they make the inner locknuts on thier hubs to light.

But I'm drunk, having trouble typing this, and will post no more today. But Sury locknuts on hubs will in fact split in half....

Gnight all.

No disrespect to the Violent Femmes, but Guitar Wolf does indeed sound like a better choice today.

They are very responsive and always looking for feedback on their product. Although if you shoot them an email right now it you will have a bit of a delay getting a response as they are over in Berlin for the Single Speed Word Championship.

FWIW, I've got a couple of Surly hubs and crank my tracknuts down so hard they deform over time. Even doing this I never have broken one of the locknuts, even with my gorilla mechanic tactics.

guerrilla ;P-- and that's a good idea, I might try that. Surly is owned by QBP though right? how good is their customer service

I've heard this mentioned before but I don't think it's true. Where did you hear this? QBP is certainly their largest distributor and they will assemble any surly with parts from their inventory but I don't think it goes beyond that.

Let me know if I've missed something.

Gorilla was actually more appropriate for his tightening stylez.
