Tandem Cycling - Finally! Got to ride with my favorite stoker again!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

After a 49 day stay at chris everett's children's hospital for complications from his cancer preventions treatment, my 6 yo (soon to be 7!) grandson came home. He was finally strong enough to want to get out and ride on "Jazz" the name he gave to our tandem.

We only did a 4 mile loop, but he had a blast. We took a protected route west into a stiff wind, and then headed south to cross the canal. We then hopped on the bike/hike trail heading east. That stiff wind was now at our back. I asked him "are you ready to go fast?" and "Yes" was his emphatic answer. We cranked it up and ran thought all the gears in the big ring. We hit 26+ but settled to 25 for the one mile run. It went quick.

It was pretty cold for So Fla and even though he had 2 jackets on, he was too chilly to continue. so we just headed back home.

I took this phone cam pic since no one was around to get a better pic. I also included a pic of our maiden voyage in August.

Regarding his health, he is now cancer free. His kidney got "bruised" on the interferon prevention treatment, and that lead to the 49 day stay after Christmas. Once his kidney (he only has one left after the surgery last year) is fully healed we hope he'll be able to do the "old" preventative treatment. He seemed to tolerate that OK.

Nice to hear he's doing better. I was wondering having not heard anything.

I am pretty certain those photos are not from today, unless it was a lot warmer 20 miles to the south.

PMK, Indeed 2 of the photos were from August, the maiden voyage. The "heads only" was yesterday when we rode. And no, it's not 20 deg warmer here 20 mi so. of RPB.

Glad to hear the good news and happy that he wanted to ride. Hope the healing continues!

Yes, he's very much into doing the things he's missed. It really tugs at my heart strings.

BTW, I don't know if you are "a red rider" but I'm riding a century in the Broward Tour de Cure this Sunday.
