I have a question...so tires are marketed as all sorts of types, my question is about what the difference between touring and commuting tires. both are marketed leaning towards the durability aspect and the tread being able to handle multiple terrains. Any ideas towards the differences? Or are they the same thing just different marketing campaigns?

There are no industry guidelines as to what is or isn't a touring or commuting tire. So the consumer has to assess for herself which tire is best suited for her needs. In my view, the conscientiously punctual commuter needs puncture resistance more than anything and would be willing to put up with more weight (eg. Marathon Plus), while the tourer wants a balance of better durability, lower weight, and puncture resistance - in that order (Marathon XR / Supreme). If the latter can avoid carrying a spare because she can depend on the reliability of her tires, that's a bonus.
marketing, you get the tire that meets your needs.
