hello all you spinners!

about two weeks ago i changed my front chaingring on my brrompton (bwr hub) because i never (after around a year + use) liked using the top ones (to much hard work), and you know what i acctually dont miss the top gears. The top one get used the most off course but is as fast as i need/want to go. Additionally i can get up some reeeeeally (apolgies for lack of technical description) steep hills which are plentiful here in lovely wales.

also the gear steps reduce

top to bottom

5.71
4.6
3.6
3
2.34
1.9

I was worried about structural capacity of the hub however then i remembered i have tried a 22T front with no problems.

any of you guys/gals ride with smaller than 44t frontrings?

Well I have an entirely different bike than a Brompton but like you, I am not at all attracted to really high top gears. For some reason, my leg muscles get laden fast with lactic acid if I don't spin the crank at least 90 rpm or more.

My personal experience had nothing to do with changing to a much smaller chain ring but an accidental breakage of my gear shifter. I set the derailleur on first gear which represents about 33 gear inches. Not sure what that is in "meter development", but I rode happily in that gear ratio for weeks as I was just too lazy to order a new shifter.

Of course eventually I did get a new shifter, but still find myself hardly not using anything above my third gear for except rare moments when I need to sprint fast to get to a side street or something.

I really think I can live through life without anything higher than a 50 or 52 inch gear:)

Edit: OK, in meters development, my lowest gear is 2.6.

You know the best thing! i can fit a triple on there!!!! if i knew a front derailer that worked for a brompton

what do people think of the front derailer vs the brompton rear changer?
