View Full Version : I cracked my triangle

I was stupid in how I tried to land a jump. Took my rear trangle with it. Cracked it on one side, bent it on the other, crushed my wheel a bit. I took it to my "frame expert". He was wondering how the heck I landed on my bike or if I just threw it out of anger. Ah well...time for a new bike :D

Ok, this thread can do with one of those "this thread is useless without pics" thingos. (FoX Rider, this is your call) But anyway, thats bad luck about the frame worldirc.

triangle...

is that the rear half of the frame?

WorldIRC

The rear triangle. The section that the rear wheel goes into. I don't have any pics...my digi cam is out for repair.

Oh ok that explains the no pics. It seems everyone's camera is getting fixed at the moment! The digicam i use for riding is broken too but thats the reason it IS my riding camera. Ha!

It seems to be a moderator thing -- needing cameras. I tend not to take my cameras ON my rides -- I never know if I'll smashem up or not.

If you need details -- it seperated right from the seat tube and can't be welded back -- the way it broke the actual tubing on the trangle was damaged and the other side of the triangle actually bent.

Always bring a camera! I do. It's great to catch the moments on film when your buddy's F-up drops or eat sh*t. It's good to laugh at after. And to post on BF.net so I won't put you on my hitlist.

WorldIRC

Just remember, I can modify that hitlist at anytime.

It's still in my mind. I know who owes me. Don't Make my Haro Cult hunt you down. (where is Xtreme Biker?)

worldIRC where were you riding, if you don't mind my asking... ?

WorldIRC

Downtown...freeriding. I'm thinking I shouldn't be doing 3.5-4 foot concrete jumps over and over on a standard MTB frame.

man, i haven't been downtown to ride in quite some time.

Standard MTB frame...

What do you mean by that? A fire mountain style thing? Or a shred?

WorldIRC

Just a hardtail ;)

Hehehe...when I work I write. My job is in IT so if I am waiting for a server to load or something...I post :)...except right now cause I am bored stiff and don't feel like going out :)

So watcha getting...dually?

WorldIRC

I work in IT too :P Datastorage for RBC ;)

I'd like a dualie. Be better for freeriding.

Cool...decent job :)...I would love to go corp...definate advantages :D...

If you are still in consideration mode you should run down to sportcheck (yes a sporting good store) and try and get an ironhorse...unbelievable bikes...and besides I might be able to arrange a coupon for ya from the team captain (ironhorse dropmachine) unless you already know the guy, he can get you one too :)

for the most part yeah. last time i was at yorkdale (shopping with the wifey) i saw they had two hollowpoints in stock, one expert and one sport. i wouldn't mind getting my hands on the expert. :D

How was there pricing. I'm obviously gonna have to put the bikle up on my stand and work on it...being built by a chek employee.

Interested in a K2 Brass Monkey frame????

I ended up with it, and haven't built it up yet. It's a small, so it'd make a good DJ frame.

I could throw in the brand new Shiver SC forks I just got!

yeah, if i ever got a bike from there i'd be sure to have one of my wrench buddies give it a go over...

i can't remember how much the hollowpoints were off hand, but i do remember they were both under 2gs. if i remember correctly, i think one was $1900 or a little less and the other was a bit cheaper - maybe around $1200-1400 range... but my memory sucks so i can't tell you for sure.

i know on sportchek's site they got a sgs fr expert listed for just over $2000 (i wouldn't mind having one of those either heh :D ).

The SGS expert is awesome. Sorry I forgot your stores likely won't carry the good bikes. My mistake...

hollowpoint is nice but a xc/trail bike. I doubt ironhorse would warranty it under abuse.

...

I'm still being hanged in suspense. Just a hardtail...

I don't want to end up with my bike broken after some 4 foot drops. LOL It'll take time getting that good.

Do most 600-1100 CDN hardtails (LIKE THE SHRED or STUFF) break under those circumstances?

WorldIRC
08-21-04, 12:40 PM
Dude, it was my crappy KHS frame. I got it in 2000. It was the first bike that I built myself when I was a mechanic. 4 years is still decent for an ALU frame though.

Maelstrom

The stuff/shred can handle tonnes. The frames are solid. 4ft is nothing.

Now the wheels. Kona has a tradition of putting the crappiest rims on the market on their bikes. They will blow.

I cracked a rim once..it made a cool sound :)
