im confused. i know i read somewhere about freewheels, (mighta been bmxtrix.com) but they it was talking about free coasting and something about going backwards and your pedal dont go. can anybody name what it is. im figuring that it only works on three piece cranks however. just curious. its bothering me.

a free wheel is the rear sprocket it makes u go forward wen u move cranks forward but wen u move cranks bak the freewheel becomes free so u dont move backwards but a freecoaster is a totally different thing its fomainly for flat landers its hard 2 explain but ya no wen u roll backwards ur cranks spin with a free coaster this does not happen so u can go in both directions without ur cranks spinning
Whoever it was was talking about a freecoaster, basically it allows you to coast (not have to move the pedals) in either direction (fowards or backwards). Sometimes they require you to take the load off of the chain by a slight backpedal before the freecoaster engages, however it allows you do do flatland maneuvers that require the wheel to move in the reverse direction or rollbacks without backpedaling.
