Electric Bikes - Was beating cars to the next stoplight today

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Was blowing by cars and out-accelerating them to the next stop light. That's a lot of fun to do. I was flooring the throttle and then pedaling hard actually out accelerating those 2 ton cars. hahaha. You should have seen the look on some of their faces. With my 5303 motor, I got it up to 29.5 mph on just 36v today.

Is this something generally limited to electric bikes? :dunno:

I live downtown but I don't normally drive down to the center, I usually go west. Today, I noticed cars were slow off the start so I was thinking that maybe I could beat them to the next stop light and I could if I pedaled hard. Lots of fun. Funny as hell too because lots of them get in the other lane thinking that the guy with the bike is going to be really slow and then when they find out that you are faster than them, they are like "WTF"
sounds funny as hell would make a good video.

Here is one I took awhile back that illustrates this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=AU&hl=en-GB&v=GjsWmQCVQGs&eurl=http://au.youtube.com/my_videos_edit2&feature=player_embedded
Granted this was on a gas bike but it is the same as electric, it just goes further and is legal to go faster (30 mph) with.....Because of this ability to launch off the line I make it a habit to stop at all stop signs to try and set a good example for the cause. The other day a cager accused me of running a stop sign though while I was on my e rig. I had to think about this for a bit but I finally came to the conclusion that because I had gone across the intersection so quickly from a track stand that his perception was that I had run it? 1000w at 48v gets the job done!
