I do most of my riding in a very urban environment, getting on and off the pedals constantly. Right now, I'm comfortable using toe clips -- I'm not looking on changing to a clipless system.

Still, for the days when I'm doing a longer, less stop-and-go ride, is there any advantage to using some sort of special shoe with toe clips?

Generally a stiff sole is easier on the feet after a long day in the saddle. Some sort of reinforced toe area helps avoid bloody big toes too.

Something like the Shimano MT31 is relatively inexpensive and can be used with clips, and later used clipless if it suits you.
