Hey all, 21st August - My birthday, got loadsa money and ive decided that i want to spend my money on upgrading my drivetrain on my hardrock because in time i want to change out the fork and the frame....
Ive made a list of all the crap i want and need, im upgrading from 8 to 9 speed so a complete drivetrain overhaul is on the books :)
My list
Shimano 9 speed XT shifters
Sram 59pc chain
Shimano LX 9 spd Cassete
Shimano XT Rear deraillier - Dont know whether to get a long or short cage, somebody help me out with this please.
Shimano XT gear cable set
FSA PLatinum ISIS BB Need to find out the size of this
FSA Alpha drive and rings
Can you tell me if all of this will fit together properly, and would i have to change my wheelset to get the 9 spd cassete onto the wheel?
What special tools would i need aswell? Im guessing a BB tool and a crank Extractor? This tools wont cost much im guessing
Thx for your help, moneys burning a hole in my pocket lol

Dont know about compatibility but i think it will be ok. I have heard that short cage deraillers are better because there is less chance of them getting caught in your spokes but again, im not too sure.
You'll need a crank extractor, a BB tool and a cassette tool also. These can be cheap or expensive depending if you buy brand name or not. Trust me, it can make a lot of difference.

My list
Shimano 9 speed XT shifters Current or previous version?
Sram 59pc chain Decent chain won't blow your budget
Shimano LX 9 spd Cassete Personally I prefer SRAM Cassettes
Shimano XT Rear deraillier - Dont know whether to get a long or short cage, somebody help me out with this please. The LX cassette says Long
Shimano XT gear cable set Why not XTR or generic teflon cables? Also the Aztec Powerlines setup is SuhWEEET
FSA PLatinum ISIS BB Need to find out the size of this What do you ride again? I'd take a look at Truvativ's offerings instead.
FSA Alpha drive and rings

Thx for the advice, In the end, i bought all that stuff apart from the FSA stuff, decided on some XT cranks instead, was told they were stronger, lighter and would last longer.
Im just about to buy the cassette, some new pedals and the chain, decided i would get the cranks from a shop because i could test and look at them, and buy the more obvious stuff off the net because its much cheaper :)
Thx for all the help again
