OK. I am IN! All signed up, with the dinner and a T-Shirt too.
That shirt looks sharp. I sure wish they did a yearly jersey.

Last years finish, with Taxi777

I just got into my thick head the the Tour rolls into Sacto the day after. Wow. I'll get up Sunday and head to the sacto finish and do a short recovery ride, then try to give money to vendors at the tour (least year we spent $$ at Hincapie) and watch the winners roll in. It'll be a cycling weekend extravaganza!

I'm going to wait and see how Solvang goes before making up my mind on this one!

Signed up for this. 11 hours is the target. Heat could make that unworkable, though I just can't see how this cant be 3 hours less ride time than DMD.

OK, I'm in too. No time target - I'll be happy to finish.

I'm in, I don't know about a target time. The last time I did Davis my on the bike time was 11:45. This year I'm doing the Central Coast Double the week before.

Racing through a double or a century is fun sometimes.
Then sometimes it is more like chugging a good beer.
Kind of a waste, better when sipped.

LOL - I'll let my hr monitor tell me how fast to go. At least it should be faster than Solvang!

I was out for 16 hours and change the last two Davis Doubles.
Hemet was 15:38
Solvang was 14:20

My only "plan" is to start really early and finish before dark. I'd like to ride a Davis with temps under 200 degrees. That might speed thing sup a bit.

I'm still undecided about this. Last year's heat did me in, and I'm not thrilled about suffering through triple digit heat and 16% climbs with no shade. Even though I'm in better shape than last year, Davis has me psychologically freaked out.

I'v been seeing your rides on facebook. Sounds like you're doing a ton of climbing. I think the heat got you last time, not the ride. I'm praying it won't be so flippin' hot this year.

It's an El Nino year so who knows what the heat will be like. Not sure I'll be able to handle a double by May 15th though.

Does that make hot hot hot more likely, or less likely?

I predict a 78F day with a slight 5-8 mph south wind. The north wind is the one that brings the heat.

Here's last year's route http://connect.garmin.com/activity/18710314 ... at least until I SAG'd in at Resurrection ... but the big one is Cobb Mountain, at around mile 95. Triple digit heat and 16% grade, with no shade ... unrelenting.

Quick tip: If it's going to be hot, bring your own tube sock! We'll gladly fill it with ice if we're not running low and you can take it with you. The ice we have, but as people take the socks (they're supposed to be left at the rest stops) we quickly run out.

Ice socks saved my life. Really. in 08 I rode mist of the way after Cobb with one. They didn't last long in the heat, but oh they were great.

Weather: What will it be?
Wednesday before 74-82 says weather underground. Anyone have a long range forecast that hits the magic day?

I remember 08 when every day the prediction went up and up. I'm hoping for better this year.

That's when it's extra fun, though.

I had no idea if I could do it when I signed up for Eastern Sierra Double last year. Davis will mark my 6th dc in the calendar year since then.

I find that the trick with doubles is that 90% of it is 50% mental.
If your body can do 100 it can do 200 if you ask that of it.

That being said, I had done close to 20 centuries before my first double. I was ready for a new challenge.
If you throw your hat in the ring, you will have lots of support.
Bike Forums will have a lot of wheels on the road that day for you to suck onto.
I freely offer mine.

I'm going for it too... I haven't been doing as much training as I'd like due to a messed-up work schedule. But I have next Saturday off. My longest ride since Death Valley Spring was only 60 miles... Should be fun!

This will be double number 16! =)

It's not keepin' me awake nights, but almost!

MT rooms are precious in Davis, it seems; they tell me I got the "last one."

It's a double - desparate NorCal BikeForums late registrants, there's a spot f' you; I'll check this thread periodically.

I had been on the fence for a while, but I am also in! I feel very unprepared, did the Grizzly Peak last weekend and a 60mi/6600ft ride today, this will have to do.

Was anyone planning to head toward Sacramento on Sunday to catch the finish of stage 1 of the Tour of California? Looks like it would be a flat 11 miles from Davis to downtown Sac which could make for a nice recovery ride.
