The Harder They Fall.
In the Spring of 1977 I was a sophomore at Connecticut College in New London CT. There were two shows over a month or so on campus in the small theater there: Billy Joel, and Jimmy Cliff. They didn't sell all the B. Joel tickets. The Jimmy Cliff show was standing room only.
I was at the J. Cliff show. Of course. It was friggin GREAT. Never was a huge Billy Joel fan anyway.

I'll keep you posted, we hope to have the website up within a few weeks. We have the backing of the Navy League and we do have connections to the head PR lady at the Pentagon.

In the Spring of 1977 I was in 3rd grade. I spent 4 weeks out of school that Spring having surgeries for a compound fracture of my right arm which was the result of a school yard bet that I couldn't jump from the top of the climbing toy to the ground. As it turns out, I couldn't. My teacher was named Mrs. Smith and I had a major crush on her.
I must have not learned much because when I was in college, I ended up with a compound fracture of my left wrist from a very similar bet.

The US military budget is bigger than the budget of most countries, why is the Navy needing to have a fundraiser?

Who? This must be one of those east coast things.
In 1977, I saw ELP live with a full symphony orchestra. Now THAT was a concert.

You know, I've been wondering the same thing myself. Regardless, this is a feel good project that will be painless for all concerned, and it will help my kid get into college.

What's a Billy Joel or a Jimmy Cliff? You're old and you should feel bad about it.

I hesitate to admit going to see Billy Joel just a month ago. What can I say, my wife is from Long Island and this is the first time she's ever talked about going to a concert.
I saw Jimmy Cliff when I was a sophomore in college; Salt n Pepa were the opening act.

Jimmy still played for like 3 hours after they were done.

I think Billy Joel must have been more annoying 30 years ago than now. At least now he's entitled to be a grumpy old man (thinking Angry Young Man and Captain Jack). How smug do those songs sound coming from a 20-something? They're pure college admission essay material.

And in of all places my hometown of Des Moines.
To put this in perspective, the only other rock concert they're STILL talking about in Des Moines is the one where Ozzie bit the head off of the bat.

Who can argue with this?
On the other hand, I have seen some rather amazing shows in my time kid.

He could be rolling the WS celebration doobies for the "Tribe"this season.
Jimmy buffet is good but Billy Joel is the piano man.

Jimmy buffet blows but Billy Joel is fatter.
Fixed.
We used to have The Harder They Come on LP -- it was my favourite record as a kid. That, Abbey Road, and Monty Python's Previous Record. I think my parents still have them at home, but they're likely scratched to oblivion by now.
