Mountain - Plains - Stupid C470 trail construction!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Went out today, to ride the trail so I would know where to go when I decide to take it to work. I got all of about 3 miles into it, when I ran into a closed section due to construction. They were replacing a large section of concrete, and blocking the path as well. I probably could have found a way around, but the point was to ride the trail so I'd know it before using it to get to work.
I know I've seen it in the past, but I can't remember what the website is that lists such things?
edit: I might be mistaken, it might be the High Line Canal trail, not sure.

It's a blessing. Trust me. Someone ran a large truck down that path from Rooney Road to Ken Caryl a long time ago and broke the concrete. Once the construction is done, the path will be more usable then it has been for nearly 15 years. Be patient.
If you need help with alternate routes, just holler.
It's amazing living in the Denver area with the availability of such a trail system for biking/running/etc. It could be much, much worse...

Also, are they going to fix, or have they fixed the C470 section from the Highline Canal to the underpass under C470 headed down to Santa Fe? IT has been a long time, since I moved to Parker, that I have been on that section - but it was pretty bad, with ruts big enough to catch your front wheel.
It is amazing in what great chape they keep the Parker trails. Every year they mark any section with a crack and repour it. I do wish they would put in a "soft" trail along the concrete for pedestrians and runners. It is better on the legs, and separates sometimes busy traffic. They even put up path signs this year. I have several times been at the top of Sulphur Gulch Trail with out-of-area bicyclists who thought they were still on the Cherry Creek Trail!!
The highline canal section is the part now closed. The flag lady mentioned working all the way to I-25. OP can detour on County Line or Plaza.

My regular commute runs west along the C-470 trail until Lucent. They have completed the section from the highline canal bridge between Broadway and Lucent now and it looks like they are moving west of Lucent. I rode it on Tuesday and they were just completing the last section east of Lucent then. The repaving of the section in the big dip near the bridge is a huge improvement. It shouldn't fill up with mud and ice any more. They have a lot of sections marked out for repair east of Broadway also. I hope it isn't too difficult to get around these during construction. I may start riding my mountain bike if it is a problem.

I spoke too soon. This morning they were working on a section of about 100 yards about 1/4 mile east of Lucent. They have signs up on the west side of Lucent as well. I had a better look at the zone which was rebuilt in the big dip between Lucent and Broadway near the Highline canal trail. It looks really good now, built up with a large culvert running under it. :thumb:

I've been taking County Line between Erickson & Broadway for the last couple of weeks, after a very muddy cross-country hike the day they first started on the big dip. The flag lady that day told me they'd be working on that whole section until April 1st. County Line's not too bad at that point, it has a decent shoulder.
The website that used to post trail/road updates I believe was http://www.trailsdenver.com/, but it seems to fallen into disuse.

+1 Those cracks are horrible. I'll be glad when they're fixed.

I'm glad they'll be repaving the section between Quebec and Yosemite. That 30' section of asphalt near the turnoff for Willow Creek was dangerous. Deep, wide, parallel cracks in the asphalt, just asking for a bite of your tire. Plus they were right on the bottom of the hill, where folks would be going quite fast. Fortunately, I've never taken a spill there, but I'm sure others haven't been so lucky. Looking forward to the work being complete. A little short term inconvenience is a small price to pay.
Anyone know of a good alternate route to go from Willow Creek to the Inverness Business Park area? I ride the C470 trail about three times a week when commuting to work and take it from Willow Creek to S Valley Hwy. Maybe I'll just use Yosemite as a detour to get around the construction.
