I just had my van hit by the local Library Bookmobile! Even better,.......the driver left the scene. I'm not going into a whole lot more detail here for legal reasons, other than it was definitely his fault.

Needless to say, I'm not a happy camper right now. :(
oh well, it's only a car and many people will just up and run if they hit something with their cars as long as they think they weren't seen committing the act.
actually, some people will run even if they were seen because they think the witnesses won't come forward.
This year has been a disaster for pedestrian/auto collusions for Toronto and surrounding areas. The true bastards just leave the scene too.

Fortunately, when the police caught up, there was a nice fresh pretty paint transfer on the trailer the exact color of my van, and I had the hubcap from his trailer's lead axle in my possession. :p The police officer investigating found it on the ground right behind my front tire.
On the good side of the balance sheet, a) My insurance has already initiated the claim and is representing me and my interests (I highly recommend Geico! :D) and b) No one was hurt......just property damage.

Same type hit on my car a few weeks ago. My driveway was snowed so I parked it on the street for the first ever (that's 10 years). Bam, off with the mirror and a creased front fender. Every car one that street got hit. Almost like some idiot was having "fun".
I feel for ya, Tom.

maybe the space time continuum formed a crease along that road and slightly squished all cars on the road?

Geico is good for being agressive in pursuing claims but not so good in other ways. My car was stolen and my son's friend who worked for GEICO said GEICO starts with sub Blue book wholesale to settle claims. I have Allstate and they offered me Blue book retail from the beginning. Anyone looking at insurance companies needs to see Consumer Reports ratings. It's quite a revealing experience.

Hit and and Run On Sentence driver?
Hey, my van just got hit by the BookMobile! Somebody call a librarian.
When the police catch them, I bet the driver loses his library card.
I've created some wanted posters for you to put up.

Perhaps his participle dangled too far in the adjacent lane.
Their FAQ does not address this particular problem.

wouldn't it be funny if they had the same insurance company? good luck - we've all been there and no one likes the hassle.
my current spouse backed into a neighbor and tore off his rear bumper after he just came home from the autobody shop for other work ... DOH!
luckily he was a nice guy and I had her make him a pie.
it's all better now but I don't know if her driving has improved - better keep that pie recipe handy!

It the damage only the quarter panel bumper and door, or was their steering/alignment damage too?
I tell you, you cannot trust those damned librarians. She was probably too busy reading and petting her 7 and a half cats. You should definitly sue her cardigan off, and then I can swoop in and take her job!

Not too big of a deal, so long as the frame/unibody isn't thrown out of whack....

My mom is a career librarian at a pretty steadily funded library. But even she recently told me that her library is starting to feel the crunch of the economy. It's a rough business to be in these days.:crash:

Track them down at an event or whatever, and then start requesting lots of books about safe driving and situational awareness and ask which they prefer.

Precisely my worry. My driver side wheels were off the ground, according to the witnesses. I'm actually stunned there's as little damage as there is.

Sounds like a snowplow got you and your street.

I'd say an accurate number from her own personal experience.:P
Tom I might suggest those day glow "curb feelers"installed after the repairs are done to give the next scofflaw a distinct "BOING" before he connects with your van.

One of the Muni plow drivers thought he clipped my neighbor's car last winter. After listening to/feeling the offending road grader, its partner, and another Muni street maintenance truck idle right outside of my basement apartment from 2 am to 3 am and the rattling dishes in my cupboard, I finally got dressed and went out to ask them to shut the stupid things off. When I went out, they said that they thought he'd hit the car and asked if it was mine. I said no, but that the POS in question had always looked that banged up and that it didn't look to me like there was any new damage. They left five minutes later.
When I looked the next morning, I noticed a large fresh scrape on the rear bumper of the POS, bordered with black rubber from the grader's tire. Whoops. I hated the neighbors in that building anyway.

I'm curious, did the impact switch get flipped?
Tom Stormcrowe

No, there isn't an inertia switch in GMproducts that I know of, and if there is, then it didn't trigger. The fuel pump didn't get shut down and the engine didn't cut off.
