General Cycling Discussion - Men's Only Forum - No Women Allowed

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

OKay, the women have their "women only" forum.
So, how about a "Men's Only" forum?
[edit]
Hey, it is there!

We could discuss ??? and ??? and ???. It should be fun! :D :D

What's fair is fair, I say. Just as cycling has issues that only exist for women, cycing has issues that only exist for men. I see no legitimate reason why the men shouldn't be allowed their own forum as well.

I haven't seen any hesitation discussing genital numbness, farting problems on fixies, and explicit road rash pictures on the open forums. Is it really necessary?

Whether or not it's really necessary, I do believe that the option should be there.
what in the world are we going to discuss there?
what in the world are we going to discuss there?
We're probably going to end up discussing why there's a closed Women's Cycling forum. ;)

We could chat about how great a woman's butt looks in cycling shorts. :D
Let's see... I nicked my scrotum trimming the hair on my nuts after shaving my legs this morning. Anyone care about that? :D

So does that mean I can't follow the "bicycle smile" thread anymore? Damn.

The question is - Do we really want/need our own Forum or do we want one because the woman have one?

Its about equal rights.
Not, equal rights when it suits some group but special privilege other times.(Otherwise known as "What's mine is mine and whats ours is also mine.")
Heres a mens subject.
Is it better to dress up, down, left, or right for cycling when wearing road shorts. Also what's best for stops at stores and such, I've noticed out the corner of my eye that many women around give a solid peep down that way and I'd like to leave a good impression.
I think you've sort of illustrated an analogous topic relevant to what I've tried to point out about closing off the Women's Cycling forum. Wouldn't this and other questions like it be better answered if both sexes were able to contribute to the thread? Just as I think the above question would be better served if everyone could respond to it, I've seen similar questions brought up in the Women's Cycling forum in the past and feel that a disservice has been done by shutting out a segment of the population which may be able to contribute something useful.

Yeah, I guess both forums can now deal with the more....anatomical sides of riding, and other misc questions, without the other side jumping in. I guess if anyone wants answers from both sexes, it would most likely go into general or something.
I guess I won't have to get up to take a pi$$ now that we have a men's forum. I can just go there.

Since when has the presence of the ladies in the general forum inhibited our male contributors?
what in the world are we going to discuss there?
Fashion, nail polish, diets, kids etc... :D
The idea of a women's forum is great but needing special permission to access is lowering the female gent to bimbo level. I discuss lots of topics with lots of ladies and none of the above figure.
Who did a nasty?

What the hell happened to it? You can't run a test of something like that for just a couple days most people probably didn't even get a chance to check it out and give it a go.

True, but it is better to explain things to people with a vested interest.
Has the women's forum vanished? Was not clear what the "it" meant in this message:

I can see a good reason for having a woman's only forum because women often have problems that only a woman can really understand, and men can go into that forum when they feel they could help. However I see no reason for a men only forum, since most of our forums are patronized by men now and men have no special problems related to sex.

I wouldn't be comfortable talking about the matting of my coat if I couldn't talk just to other alpaccas.

can we have a room that's all me, all the time? I would love to have highly intellectual threads with myself, as such would be on path to finding inner peace, and all shall be balanced within teh world.

To my mind the women who requested the forum are missing the point of internet based discussion sites. To post on such a site is an act of public speech that you do not do just to help yourself but also so that others can learn as well. By assuming that an issue is female or male only you are making a very arrogant and unwise judgement and to shut somebody out from this knowledge is a form of intellectual apartheid.
Men do contribute useful answers to the womens' forum and I have seem little evidence of any reason that inappropriate comments were made. Certainly the comments are far more restrained that those found in the mechanics forum! For women to shut themselves off from the advice of 50% of the cycling population (it's probably more like 75% ?? ) is shortsighted.
We see the same problem in seperate faith schools, especially those where the differences are not so big (c.f. protestant and catholic), as isolation breeds phobias and misunderstandings from both sides. If you want a private confidential consultation see a friend, doctor or priest but this is the internet and the rules are different here.
I ask that the forum is immediately opened (as read only) to all people while those in charge have a proper debate with the users (of all genders) about this issue.

Apartheid was a derogatory, disgusting form of segregating nonwhites from white people, and a systematic means of degrading all people of colors and races to further divide the power of the majority to give more power to the white minority. As a nonwhite, I find it highly offensive that such a racist and humilitiating system is used as an example for something as ridiculous as creating a Women's Cycling forum.

You haven't seen the inappropriate comments because they've all been removed from public viewing about as fast as the moderators encounter them. Blame the quickness of the moderators on why you may not see the comments to begin with. :)

If you want the "proper" debate with the users of all genders, we've already established a place for that on the forums. It's called the "General Cycling Forums".

Hey Koffee, what's wrong with the read-only suggestion? Only women who have requested the rights have the privilege of posting. This eliminates the burden on monitors, continues the benefit of information sharing to the whole community, and helps new women to the forums know that there is a women's forum.

this is sad and funny - all at once. And at the same time, I don't care either way. Men's forum, Women's forum...whatever. PLEASE DO NOT GENDER SEGREGATE THE FIXED GEAR FORUM...that would be below stupid.
Becuase we really wanted to foster an environment where women would have the opportunity to discuss some of the issues that they may find embarrassing to have advertised openly. The read-only option would not foster the enviornment we are trying to create.

Agreed. It would be about the nth degree below stupid. We are not gender segregating every forum. It would be pointless. Besides, aren't there only like two or three female fixies? It would get pretty lonely for them! :p ;) And Got help those females in the BMX forum! ;)

I think you meant "God" help those females in the BMX forum... And there are quite a few (by no means majority, unfortunatly) women in the SS/Fix forum... It'll never be as many as I'd like, but oh well. It's all still bikes, right?
http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=62005
Forgot to mention - I see a lot of them here in MPLS that aren't on the forums. If I have the chance to talk to them (meaning they aren't dropping my sorry, slow but) then I try to make it a point to mention that particular board if I can...
Anyways...
this is lame. cycling is already geared toward me. we already say what we want anyway. it's a waste of memeory/bandwidthy... blah etc. blah.

ah, and here's the pudding!
heh.. i didn't know the female forum was cut off... i'm not sure if that changes things.. i'll decide after class.
I just found www.bikeforums.net a few days ago. What I really like about bikeforums is that compared to many other forum websites this one has a lot of people that respect the poster and answer the questions without getting down on the person for the question they asked.
I don’t think that a male and female forum is really needed.
From my short time here I think that if I have male question it could be posted in the current forums that fit and not insult any women that see it. If I want guys opinion on a “male designed seat” that should not be a problem. If a woman want to ask a female questions it should be the same.
Who knows I might see something that helps my female ride partner and vice versa.
It seems that bikeforum is a great place with good people. If I need a guys area only, I might not be talking too much biking so some other website might be better for that.
Just my opinion.
Cheers
