Thank you to everyone who completed the first questionnaire on respiratory safety and air pollution! All of your feedback has sparked more and more broader questions! Sorry for a repeat of the first few short questions; these answers are most valuable when comparing the rest of your feedback. If you didn't complete the first questionnaire, not to worry - it would be great to get your feedback on this one!
Thanks again in advance for your prompt response! :)

When commuting, its about half-hour to an hour. My road rides are much longer.

Helmet, Ryder photochromic lenses
12) Have you ever worn a mouth guard (For cycling or other), what was your reason for doing so? and how did it make you feel? (e.g. uncomfortable, protected)
I've worn a mouthguard for playing soccer back in high school (8 years ago), and I hated it.

I used to, but now I relish in the silence and sounds of the road.

Of course I'm paranoid about cars, who isn't?!

PPE is almost always pretty poorly design and "fredlike"

Further comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated...
PPE for commuting in the road seems excessive...is that just me?:twitchy:
1) What Country/City do you live in?
Sun Valley, NV
2) What Nationality are you?
American
3) What age group are you from?
50-55
4) What is your occupation?
Pharmacy Tech
5) How long have you bicycle commuted for?
Year and a half
6) How long do you ride for at any one time when commuting?
ca. 25mins in the morning, ca 35 mins going home. Guess which way
the hill is?
7) How would you describe the environments you commute through? (e.g. clean air/countryside or dusty roads/countryside or clean air/city or City smog).
Depending on the time of year, clean, road dust, forest fire smoke, inversion smog
8) Does exposure to 'particle' air pollution concern you? (e.g. road dust etc.)
Not particleulary
9) Does exposure to 'vapours/gases concern you? (e.g. Carbon Monoxide)
More so than soot. If I could, I'd make all cars at least have their exhausts
directed towards the left side of a car.
10) Have you seen anyone wearing a PPE product to aid respiratory protection when bicycle commuting?
Never.
11) What products do you wear on your head/face/mouth when bicycle commuting? (e.g. Helmet, sunglasses, any form of head/face warmer, mouth guard etc)
Helmet every ride. Bandana/headscarf to block sun when the weather allows, balaclava/hat
and ski goggles when the weather necessitates.
12) Have you ever worn a mouth guard (For cycling or other), what was your reason for doing so? and how did it make you feel? (e.g. uncomfortable, protected)
No
13) Do you listen to music when bicycle commuting?
I tried once and did not like losing the sounds of traffic coming up behind me. It may not be
pleasant, but I find it a vital part of situational awareness when riding in traffic.
14) If so, what sort of headphones/method do you use for sound transfer?
None.
16) Are you concerned with your visibility when bicycle commuting?
Always.
17) If any, what products do you wear to aid visibility? (e.g. reflective/ florescent clothing or products).
Fluorescent jacket, day or night, 3 flashing lights in back, most days, and every night at least 3 in front in addition. I plan on adding fluorescent striping to my panniers and wish they made mesh seatbacks in fluorescent material instead of black.
18) What are your concerns and anxieties when bicycle commuting? (e.g. visibility, air pollution, accidents with cars etc.)
Just watching for interactions with vehicles, making sure I'm seen when coming up to stopped
traffic at intersections. Depending on the neighborhood, having a group of individuals decide
I'm something to mess with.
19) How do you feel (like or dislike) about the PPE products shown below? (e.g. aesthetics - material, colour, design, function, affordability)
I found the wrap around scarf accetable looking but I am concerned about it inhibiting my
normal respirations. I find my fleece balaclava noticeable in interfering with my respirations.
The clear plastic mask looks unpleasant and not capable of staying in place during any sort of
physical activity.
20) Are you familiar with any other type of PPE product for respiratory protection?
Various masks in a hospital setting, both fabric and the formed plastic respirator masks.
Further comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated...
I would consider something that would/could allow me to safely breathe during our summer fire
smoke blankets we sometimes get.

9 out of 9 for answer 9 BassNotBass. I laughed and laughed and laughed
Answer 4 was very clever and I was very impressed by Answer 12 because it was so saucy!
With my comedy critique of Bass's work complete I will move on and say that the question master should inform the other user what the info will be utilised for (looks like Market Research to me).
I also note BassNotBass quotes the immortal words of David St. Hubbins. Very well played. Unlike the OP.
