Anyone have a good route to get from PCH (coming from HB), through Long Beach then San Pedro? Looking to ride up Palos Verdes Drive

waiting for the powers that be to build a bike bath/dedicate a bike lane on the vincent-thomas bridge.
not sure how much climbing you're looking to do, but here's an idea (http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3537634).

I haven't done much of PCH through Long Beach. It seems a little busy to me. If you are coming from HB. Consider PCH to 2nd street through Belmont Shore to Broadway get on the LA River trail off 6th st. , then either use Willow or Anaheim to cross the LA River. Anaheim is a little busier with truck traffic than Willow.
The only problem with this ride is dealing with big rigs. And a lot of it has no bike lane, but adequate shoulder. Also the shoulders tend to have gravel and bits of debris. (This is definitely an adventure)
Here is how I have done it from East of Downtown LB. Doing it in reverse may work out better. Also Figueroa is a great connector from Sepulveda down to Harry Bridges.

tradeoffs; pch has fast car traffic but also has the smoothest road surface and the most lanes. it does has an extra overpass (going over alameda) compared to anaheim and willow. anaheim is a little quieter but has more potholes and arguably as many if not more big rig trucks. willow/sepulveda (and wardlow/223rd for that matter) seems a little out of the way if you're trying to get to Pedro/PV, and it's also abundant with trucks and potholes.

Anaheim Ave also has tons of metal debris along it. I had to get some hard plastic tire liners when I was riding through that corridor a lot as I was getting puncture flats every other trip through.
