Road Cycling - Cannondale or Serotta

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I am seriously thinking about moving up to a Serotta Fierte or a Cannondale R2000 for my next bike. The idea of a semi custom is appealing (Fierte), but some people I ride with are strong Cannondale fans. Both are about the same price. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I don't think there can be two bikes that are much more different...ride 'em both and pick the one you fall in love with.

There are so many bikes to pick from at that price range. Try several,
one will likely knock your socks off.

Stand out from the crowd and ride the Serotta. But, that new carbon main tubes and aluminum stays Cannondale is suppose to be an amazingly fast bike and weighs like 15 pounds and change.

Serotta, hands down. Great heritage, geometry, process, prestige. I've been in group rides where Cannondale riders said to a Serotta rider "When I grow up I'd want a bike like THAT."

One of the biggest mistakes I've ever made was selling my Serotta. They are just beautiful riding bikes. C'dales are nice but Serotta's are art. Get the Serotta.
I have a friend that has both brands. Now understand geometry has a lot to do with the differences, but he refers to his Serotta as a "touring ride" and the Cannondale as his "performance ride"...

Very different rides, neither of which is 'bad'-- far from it. IMHO, Serottas are slightly pricey these days.
