Yup, I cut myself. While chopping veggies for a salad. Thankfully the knife was quite sharp and so the cut is clean and not very deep. It's safely bandaged and should heal quickly.
It's not dinner without a little blood.
Maybe I should thank her for the inspiration?

did you use duct tape and crazy glue to dress the wound like the lady does?

Good thing BF is here when you need them.

I used mueller sport tape and a bit of tissue to bandage it. It's my default. Works well.

Just man up and cauterize it.
Just man up and cauterize it.
If it's still bleeding when I take off the bandage tomorrow, that's the next step.

Someone needs to work on their cutting technique. :p
Sharp knife is a safe knife. :thumb:
I still remember that time I cut the tip of a finger almost clean off -- it was like a muppet mouth, just attached at the back. Ah, the memories. Almost as good as when I got my first Swiss Army Knife the day before my Grade 1 guitar exam. If only I had known Siu's crazy glue method...

I knew there were a few "I cut myself" threads and tried to find Siu's, but this one will do.
I cut myself.
I started looking at the knife threads a couple of months ago and got intrigued. I had never really been exposed to knives as collectibles or even anything beyond just utility use.
So...after spending too much time trying to figure out a good first EDC knife, I finally picked up a Kershaw Leek off eBay. It came last week and I really like it. Fun to take out and just flip open.
Well...tonight I flipped it open, then in the process of closing it, the tip caught me in the soft fleshy part between my thumb and forefinger. Tiny little cut but boy did it bleed. I held it under the faucet but that just made it worse, so I used basic first aid and applied pressure for about a minute, which stopped the bleeding.
When the knife arrived, the first thing I noticed was how dang sharp the tip was and thought that it would ultimately be the source of a self inflicted wound. I guess I was right.
No pics. It owns me now.

I'm very proud of you. But you didn't use the super glue. *shakes head*
Those leeks are nice eh? Not bad for a Ken Onion. So what knife are you getting next?? :D

"I hurt myself today to see if I still feel I focus on the pain the only thing that's real."
I thought about joining the "I cut myself" club. Then I decided that I didn't like pain that much. Or seeing my own blood (again).
I'm such a wuss.

it isn't doing a siu unless you brutally lop something off.

I've been looking at the SOG Flash...not quite sure whether I want to go "I" or "II". But it won't be for a while.

Sui, you have a problem. As soon as I saw the thread title, I instantly knew someone had a bad run in with a knife.

About 6 months ago i almost cut my pinkie off with a sword. Not a pretty sight. There was a lot of OHH **** and some **** said , it blead like crazy as i hit a vein and then it stopped bleeding and i went into shock, came out of shock pretty quickly ( i had a strong mind over matter thing going on) then a few ( whatever there called ) stitch bandages Later and a week or soo off the bike to heal.
It still hurts when it gets cold.

I was going to post a picture of a sward, but Google seems to get a lot of images from people who have similar spelling challenges, and so many look just like swords. :o

Ouch, that happened to me too. Joe came home to find me crying in the bathroom, unable to do anything but hold my finger under the water.

I cut part of my finger completely off....in front a customer when I was working at Wally World. I think it effected her more then it did me, as she turned whiter then a cotton sheet. I went to the back room and started washing it when the Asst. Mgr came in, took one look at it and got someone to drive me to the ER. The dumbass dr. cauterized it with no pain killer to get it to stop bleeding. I can still remember that...holding onto my finger with one hand and then searing pain! a few minutes later he told me to lay back cause he thought I was going to faint....son of a *****, that was painful....but the real pain was the next day, when it started throbbing! Thank God he gave me some good painkillers whcih I promptly took...can't tell you anything about the next 4 days:lol:

It's been awhile, and it only took me two times to learn, once on each hand, but... Never use a jackknife as a screwdriver on very tight screws. They tend to close on forefingers very fast.

An acquaintance cut his thumb tip off slicing meat in the supermarket deli, and the customer complained about him bleeding all over her meat. He flicked his finger at her. That would probably get somebody held in jail pending results of HIV test these days. It only got him fired then.

... unable to do anything but hold my finger under the water.
I thought that was going to help but the water going down the drain kept getting more and more pink. That's when I went the direct pressure route, so the blood clotting process could do its thing.

The knife is now officially yours. It doesn't own you till it accidentally falls off the kitchen bench and impales the family cat. :thumb:
Fixed it for my Dad.
Very long story - probably worth it's own thread. Another time perhaps...

Just in case you were wondering.

Oh hai you were cute when you were little!
But then I grew up and things changed. That is probably about 1980 and I'd be 8.
That cat grew a lot bigger and fluffier. He was a great hunter at night and a gentleman around the house during the day.
So....about the knife.
Dad was always the primary cook in the house and therefore the primary interest of the animals. He would always have what he called a 'spectator fleet' if he was cooking and so on. The cats would often get under his feet and generally hang about.
One day Dad knocks his new cooks knife off the bench and it falls point down with a thud. There it is, point into the cat's tail (which he was always leaving out behind him - not neatly wrapped around his front paws like cats are supposed to) and presumably then into the linoleum flooring.
The knife is apparently doing that wobble thing.
Cat has not flinched.
Dad is completely - O My God.
Cat gets up and walks away, leaving a huge chunk of fur pinned to the floor.

Last time I stabbed myself was on a camping trip. Pure Knife-craft 101 "this-is-how-you-don't-do-it kids" stuff.
Using the knife to trim twigs from a branch, decided it was easier to simply snap the smaller ones off. So, holding the branch and the knife, blade pointing up in my left hand, and stripping the twigs with my right...well it was inevitable really.
There I am, staring stupidly at the blood pumping out of the ball of my right thumb when a party of hikers came past my campsite. Thing is, I was too embarrassed to let them see me, and I sure as hell didn't want them trying to help, so I hid behind a bush until they'd gone.
I wonder if I'll ever be old enough to know better.

So it didn't impale him? Just got the fur?
Correct, but because the cat had such a fat fluffy tail Dad *thought* he impaled it. When Dad freaked the cat decided that there was nothing for him in this kitchen of mad bi-peds, so he got up and left. It was a big chunk of fur.
Boyoingyoingyoingggg!!
Thank you - I didn't know where to begin spelling this, so I settled for wobble. I shoulda asked an expert!
