how about getting out this tape measure?

seems like it's the trend these days to compare every possible statistic that has little to do with bicycling.

Or maybe it does.

I also think that IQ does not measure intelligence. It only measures your problem solving skills more or less.

110.

However, I started doing intervals 3 times a week to increase my average IQ.

I don't know because Mother always told me that IQ is not a good measurement of a person's true worth. So I'm thinking it must be pretty darn high.

It was so nice the other night that the lady and I walked down the street to DQ. I only had $2 on me and didn't want to bust out the debit card. Luckily a cone with some crunchy stuff on it came out to exactly $2. Bonus!

That has more to do with cycling that some of the other pissing contests posted here.

You'd have to be pretty stupid to post your IQ on here. Hence anyone claiming a high number is lying.

I would hope most are coming from a professionally administered psych test. They're actually pretty fun.

Exactly.

And the ones not posting it, might be ashamed of how low it is. Conclusion: Everybody is stupid.

None of the accumulated data provided from posters on a forum will have any integrity.

I think that is the mean.

I think that's considered average. Below 100 is less than average, above is above average. I'm pretty certain that 100 is the baseline...it's all fairly arbitrary.

Grumpy McTrumpy
03-12-10, 09:30 AM
outliers on the chart could cause the mean and the average to diverge.

They design the test around a 100 point baseline. Whether or not it's actually the average, or mean for that matter, isn't the point.

incorrect.

I suggest you look up standard deviation and normal distribution.

incorrect.

We're sort of speaking about different things. I know what a normal distribution is, what I'm saying is that when they design the test (and it's redesigned frequently as IQ tends to collectively change over time) they do so in a way that they hope the mean, mode and average is 100. If you score 100 you are considered exactly normal, no more, no less.

The test doesn't look at other results to make the comparison, that's something we do. The test is flawed and so realistically the mean, mode and average are likely to be different from 100.

Much closer

Being an ESE teacher I have a little practical experience. The Stanford test is set up with 100 as the baseline measure for "normal intelligence." "Normal intelligence" is considered to be any number within 2 standard deviations of 100 and the SD=15. Therefore normal intelligence is considered to be within the IQ range of 70 to 130. Above that school kids start getting recommended for Gifted programs. Below that, until recently they were considered to fall within a range of mental handicaps and before that they were labeled ********. Some psychologists still use terms like ******** but schools no longer do.

The Stanford is widely considered outdated and the current version of the WISC is preferred. Also, IQ can be assessed through performance as well. It is not an indicator of academic success.

Of course I'm contributing to a thread I should move to Foo so my performance IQ must be pretty low.
