No one I know rides a fixed gear. For some STRANGE reason I started reading this forum back in the spring. After reading this forum and Sheldon's pages I felt the urge to get another bike (all ready had a Ritchey Swiss Cross, Old Trek 1500, and an old Breezer Mtn bike). I thought I wanted a steel bike but a LBS had a Specialized Langster and after a test ride it came home with me. Since then it has acquired a fixed gear 42x16 (there are lots of hills hear) and bullhorns.
From reading the forum I knew I was not suppose to have a rear brake so I took it off. The folks on this forum seems a little divided on front brakes but with all the hills I kept it.
I have also learned that I am not suppose to wear lycra on a fixed gear. Is it OK to wear bike shorts if you wear regular shorts over them and say a t-shirt?
Finally the big question, which I haven't seen any comments on. If you ride a fixed gear do you shave your legs?
Thanks

Doc Tom

Do what YOU want to do, ride what YOU want to ride, wear what YOU want to wear, shave what YOU want to shave. Why do you care what other people do?

Apparently stash pockets are manditory, though I still can't find mine.

Token brief reply.

I would put the brake back on. Just don't use it if you want to learn to stop with ur feet. Then swap out the freewheel for something lower end, that's fairly traditional.

Use both brakes so you can stop if you need to, let the kewl people be kewl, u live to reproduce.

forget shaving the legs, shave where they meet! and attach a big stick to your top tube so you can jam it in the wheels to stop!;)

really tho....fixed gear is freedom, just dont' get anything caught in the drivetrain!

Watch more TV. It will tell what to buy and how to live and also what to wear along with a million other questions we all have. I don't know where I'd be today without my TV.

Only if the hair gets caught in the chainring.

Need a front brake, maybe just in case the rear tire loses all of it's air.
