Great Lakes - Racing on Sunday!!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I don't know how I missed this.
Racing in two days. I'm going to thoroughly embarass myself and probably get my lungs blown out. Sigh... fitness.
This puts a whole new spin on the weekend.

New camera arrived yesterday. 10 frames per second baby. I'll be there! :)
Too bad there's no garages nearby. ( Inside joke regarding his avatar. :roflmao2: )

Results? How'd everybody do?
Results? How'd everybody do?
Cat 5
KT's brother got 10th (first race)
John L. got 9th or 11th (first race)
Mike (not sure you know him) was a few back
Cat 4
<-5th
Kyle got 6th
Joe got 8th
Not sure about the rest.
Cat 3
Freakman decided to push the tempo at the front for the first 4-5 laps for some reason.
Scott got away for a few mins with a few other dudes, I pretended to know hot to block, then Freakman got annoyed and got in front of me and re-closed the gap. Then I sat at the front for another half lap and jumped to see if I could bridge the gap. Fortunately no one came, but I didn't get there.
That shelled me, I spent the rest of the ride recovering which ended up saving me from the wreck that Scott was in. He's ok, but he's got a boo boo on his chest.
Not positive on the final results for that one.
Where'd Joel end up? Did Isamu show?
I'm half disappointed I didn't go up, and the other half not. If the wind up there was anything like it was here, that would have made for a tough day.
Scott's had the worst run of luck. Too bad, too. I half figured this was the type of course he might even be able to get away and back around to the field on.

Joel finished near the back of the final pack but there were only about 15-20 of us--a few had been dropped, and 5 or 6 of us left due to the wreck. He attempted the 1/2 race too, not positive on that result.
It was windy as hell and more than anything made for a boring race I felt, but I was stoked to get out there racing....i think Matt and I are going again next weekend.
I hear you. I can't wait to get back at it, but it's not really in the cards for me until Burnham. I'd kill for a nice "warm up", though.

I got dropped from the 3s field. I'm gonna go do some hard riding. brb.
I got dropped from the 3s field.
There is no proof of that.
My lady grabbed the camera and did a fine job. There are a lot of other photos of non-psimet folks...you give a good enough description, I may be able to find one of you.

Considering that there are some very accomplished riders (and this looks like a 40+ race), all the "head down" action in this sprint is a little scary:

Keep in mind that John is using a long lens here (300mm??) and this compresses the distance between those riders. Those guys weren't as close as you would think judging from this photo.

400mm, but still, even for a former Olympian leading this bunch ... watch where you're going! :o

Sounds like you've got yourself a nice little setup for this season!

Yeah, I'm liking it. Just got the 1D Mk II N and the Sigma 120-400mm I had last season, while it's certainly not Canon "L" glass, I'm learning it's potential. It's all how you use it, there are going to be a zillion folks out this year with cameras and video cams. Gotta stay on top of the game! I'm working on a write up on the day for PelotonStar.Com. As soon as I get the Cat. 2 results, it gets posted. Got some other fun stuff in mind for that site as well. We'll have fun at the races this year, for SURE!

It was fun. I am fat. Scott got hurt. That is that. Time to go build some wheels.
Wilke - love the new site. I'll get a link to it up on mine.

It could have been worse. Casualties for the bike are the fork is showing some hairline cracks where the carbon blades meet the alloy crown. The saddle is 100% jacked.
I am heading to Memphis tomorrow am for 5days of riding. Going to have to mount up on my Six13 and have the C'Dale rep check out the fork.

I am guessing it's paint cracks on the fork. *fingers crossed*

Final results are posted. See my site below if you're too lazy to Google. :)
I'm keeping my eye on the Superweek site as well, just in case they decide to actually HAVE a series this year. :o

Thanks for the link! I am tentatively planning on being there this Sunday. Weather depending.
I'm 10% coming...I would say.
$20 to drive 2 hours and freeze my nads off for a practice crit just doesn't sound worth it to me.

The last I heard there could be 1-3 inches of snow by Sunday morning. They may cancel the race for that. Watch for updates.

Oh, yeah ... PelotonStar.Com !
And I just looked at the weather, and now it's partly cloudy and 40.

Not this year, my GoPro was lost last year at Downer Ave in the Superweek Pro race. :( Can't afford a new one.

I'm still confused as to how those guys went down in last week's 3's race. Of the two that initially went down, the guy closer to us was about a wheel ahead. THis is a frame from the video shot. Did they tangle up bars or ?????? The rider nearest us is falling sideways and the rider away from us has had his bars pulled sharply to his left causing him to go over the bars. Were they just goofing around pulling on each other's handlebars? Weird.

I'm going to sit this one out. I need some hard hours in the saddle more than I need to drive four hours for a race.

Turns out the two guys that went down I think are guys I am building wheels for.
I want to go. I will see. I stayed up late building wheels. I will make the call in the morning.

I had every disaster happen before-hand. Got there as the 5s started, but they insisted it was okay for me to go with 4s. In my 1st race ever. For some reason I agreed, an in no time I was riding a slow, cold time trial. I need a lot of work at this stuff.

Yeah, they rearranged the 4's and 5's a bit for safety. There were some issues last week.
Congrats on your first race!
TEAM PSIMET GET'S IT's FIRST VICTORY TODAY IN THE 4's !
Got a few photos uploading, watch my web pages for more info.
Congrats for getting in there. Did you atleast have some fun?
Wilke, who from Psimet? We need details!

*ehem*
Some dbag.
Same race. Slightly less wind, cutting across the back/front stretch.
On the first lap, I decided to attack. I think I was out there for 2 laps or so and realized that I wasn't going to win the race like that. Got back in.
Pretty boring until the last lap. A teammate (Joe) came up to the front to up the pace going into the last lap, I sat 4-5th wheel. About 200 meters before the final turn (leading to a very long and slightly elevating finish), a very small window opened...I took it.
Took the last turn at about 31mph...stood up and hammered, looked back and had plenty of room to sit up and coast across the line for first.
Did the cat 3 race. Hung in. Closed some gaps. Pulled off just before the final sprint, I had no legs to be messing with it.
