My 'bent has been sitting in the garage for far too long (about ten years). I'd love any advice you might have on how to get it ready to ride again. It's clean, the tires are flat, I have to check them for dry rot - I'm assuming the chain needs lubrication, I have no idea what to use on it - please help me get back on the road :)

Probably tires and tubes, new brake pads, and cables all around. General lubrication: chain and perhaps shifters (some are prone to sticking if they sit for a long time. If you're being really thorough, get the hubs, bottom bracket, and headset regreased. Seat fabric can deteriorate over time, so check it carefully for the first couple rides.
It shouldn't be a big deal. Bicycles are pretty darn durable- they don't really rot in place.

Thank you, Jeff. Hubby is pretty handy, I'll give him this list and see what he finds :)

If it were me, I'd lube the chain, check the tires for dry rot and replace if necessary, air them up, and replace the brake pads, which have probably hardened over the years. Give everything else a once-over and go ride.

Shifters are often a problem on a disused bike but this one has thumb shifters and they don't usually present a problem. It's a nice light bike with excellent components (I own one too.)

It's a shame he isn't making them anymore. Hopefully we'll be riding this weekend, after all this rain stops it's supposed to be gorgeous!

Less rain here than there, but same general problem: nice all week, then rainy all weekend! Last weekend and next one, too. All I can say is, ride when you can!
