Most of them, really. Most commercial television, too, not just commercials. Is it any wonder that I now try to distance my work from mass media as much as is humany possible?

Most are stupid but there was this one for Dairy Queen where this lady was drinking a coffee drink and she wouldn't give it back and ran full speed into a glass door. I haven't laughed so hard in a VERY long time!

I do the same thing myself. Even on the extremely rare occasion that I watch commercial TV, I've become an expert at walking away and doing something else for the three minutes it takes for a commercial break to elapse. I honestly can't remember the last time I sat through one.

Actually, it doesn't take a lot of effort not to watch a lot of television. I haven't done so since returning from my first cycle-tour back in Feb 2000. It was only after being away for two weeks that I realised just how poor the standard of television really is.

All the Levitro, Cialis, Viagra commercials fall into the "tres lame" category for me. However, the most offensive commercial I've seen yet is the Toyota one where the guy driving the car in all sorts of reckless manners claims that the road is his playground, belongs to him and then proceeds to do donuts on the freeway.

Yeah, what's up with this one? Is McDonalds going for the delusional paranoid market?

Also, the Ball Park Franks with the fat guy going on and on about how his wieners are "girthy." Ugh.

The Six Flags amusement park dancing old guy. Seriously...the dude looks like his skin is melting off....First time I saw it, I started quoting the wicked witch form wizard of Oz "I'm melting...I'm meltiiiing!!!!"

My favorite commercials have to be the Enzyte commercials, they are just too funny.

My favourite commercial lately is the Pepsi commercial where the guy at mission control kicks back to drink his soda and the next thing you know, a car-alarm is going off and there's a shot of little martian creatures running off with the tyres to the the Mars rover which by this time is now up on cinder blocks.

Until I can come up with a better way to entertain my nearly three year old while I do housework (yuck...sucks!!) it's Dora The Explorer to the rescue!! Oh, and her fav commercial would be the "oink oink zoo pals, neigh neigh zoo palls, bloop bloop zoo pals, zoo pals makes eating fun!" It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have a nack for memorizing every stupid jingle that was ever made!!!

There's a commercial in Oz at the moment that advertises some fast food (can't remember which one) with the line: "only 11 nett carbs" Honestly, WTF does that mean?

Then there was the Honda CRX ad that said the vehicle was the best investment you could make. Sure lose 33% on your dough just by driving out of the new car joint. Another in the long-line of make-you-feel-good -while-we-rip-the-dollars -out-of-your-pocket car ads. Just like the get-away-on-the-open-road-to-freedom themes. Yeah, sure.

McD's here also are heavily into damage control over the bad press on their stuff. They've introduced a range of salads and a new burger with lean beef patties. "I used to stay away from here because of the burgers, but now I'm here because of them". Yeah, I'll upsize the fries and Coke on that, thanks.

net carbs are carbs - dietary fiber. It's pretty shady the way they are using it, but they are being truthful....I bet it's that silly burger that has no bun and is wrapped in lettuce. Karl's Jr. over here has that exact same "11 net carbs" BS for their low-carb "six dollar burger"....It's only four bucks, but they keep comparing it to a burger at Chili's that is six bucks (and there really is no comparison, so I really don't get it). It is a decent burger for fast food, but I will only touch the BBQ bacon version of it, and only because I lvoe BBQ sauce, and I love bacon....they could make me BBQ bacon ratburgers and I would be half tempted to try it.

Has there ever been a better ingredient than bacon? (no offense to our non-swine-eating friends out there) My friend was once quoted as saying "a bacon a day keeps the doctor away....and by "a" I mean "a pound"".

Is it ironic to eat bad food that may later cause cancer while wearing a livestrong bracelet and smoking?

The Quiznos things are sponge Monkeys? WOW!! WE thought they were gerbels on crack..

What amazes me about most commercials is the whole process. There is a room full of people who approve these ads before they get put on the air. Knowing how STUPID the commercial is, can you image a whole room of people looking at the story boards and all saying the like that..

The only commercials I have enjoyed in the past year are ones they only showed on the internet. The Tiger Woods one where he is hiding in the bushes at a golf course in Orlando and pops out when the next foursome shows up and asks if he can play too.. (BUICK COMMERCIAL).

I hit the channel button with lightning speed every time that wonderful commercial comes on. :( :(

What amazes me is that people still buy these product after being subjected to the commercials. Rest assured that there is a demographic out there that responds to being treated like idiots, or the team behind producing the commercials wouldn't continue to create & air such things. Chances are, if you think a commercial is dumb or doesn't make sense, it's probably not being directed at you. The most effective commercials present the viewer with a person or persons living a certain sort of lifestyle that some demographic is supposed to identify with. They don't tell you to go out and buy anything, they are just trying to create a niche for this product in your lifestyle. They don't want you to consciously react; they mean for it to be subtle, so that after you see a commercial 10, 20, 30 times you relate it to a certain feeling: freedom, sophistication, fun, childhood. When you go to buy that laundry detergent/gum/automobile, you have a leaning towards a brand or product because you subconsciously associate it with your own values and lifestyle.

There is a difference between buying a product because of a commercial and buying a product despite a commercial. I think you need to differentiate the two. I gather your intent was to reference the former and not the latter. Stupid commercials for good products do exist and one should not detract from the quality of another. There are also such things as good commercials for stupid products.

True, sometimes a commercial is just dumb. But if I get a strong impression that the marketing department behind a product thinks their target demographic is stupid, needs to be yeld at, or the psychology behind their advertising ploys is otherwise demeaning or twisted, I really won't buy a product.

Hey come on now! The Diahreah(sp?) girl is cute.

If you watch the original commercial closely, you'll notice that she messes up the "upset stomache" part. She's looking at the rest of the people trying to figure out what she's supposed to be doing. With all the time invested in making a tv commercial, no slip-ups should make it on the air. I actually like this pepto commercial though. :)

Some commercials that I hate because they're stupid:

- The whole United airline ad campain. The ones that are animated with crayons and are supposed to mean that United Airlines will get you that job you wanted....someone should be fired for those ads.

- The dogfood ad that "has the lowest carbs" of any dogfood. Gimme a break

- The financial company who's tagline is "you are more". WTF does that mean? Who came up with that? All those high-dollar marketing people and they come up with "You are more" ???

- The credit card company who's ads are about "Thank you". Some lady calls another lady pregnant. She says "I'm not pregnant!" then the other lady realizes she's in trouble and says "Thank you" and it's all better. If I were a CEO and my marketing company came to me with that, I would have physically beat them.

- The comcast commercials that are on right now. The ones that are supposed to be like a reality TV show about a guy who is devoted to DirectTV and DSL. The show is about him seeing the light that comcast digital cable is way better. Come on....am I to believe that this 30 something year old dude has never had cable? I'm not that old and I remember the days before digital satellite.

- I really can't stand any commercial uses digital animation just because they want to use digital animation. I saw a dogfood ad where the dog gets excited about the dogfood and stands on it's hind legs and starts dancing. and not just for a little while, almost the whole commercial. it's like they're brainstorming and some jackass speaks up and says "ok, i got an idea. So the dog looks at the <brand x> dogfood and starts dancing!" and someone else goes "WOW, man you did it again! Another big bonus for Fred! But wait, how do we get a dog to dance?" Fred says "well, the way i see it we have two options. 1) I'll dress in a dog suit and dance, or 2) computers".

I like funny commercials, I think that's why uncreative, uninspired and lame commercials piss me off. Aren't marketing and advertising people supposed to be creative? How do these things make it past all the people that are involved? Maybe it's just really aggressive deadlines or something...I don't know, but sometimes I think I should go into advertising or marketing as a reality checker.

alright, i'm done for now.

We could probably get a pool of bike forums talent in on it if we tried. I'm sure there are some talented people on here that would like to help out... I couldn't do much more than host a copy online. It probably wouldn't be much to actually produce it other than travel expenses to get everyone online.

It's getting it on TV that would be harder. But a finished product pitched to the right people might go over a lot better than 'Hey we want to make a PSA about bikes that's as cool as those multi-million dollar car commercials! Can we have like, money and stuff?'
