what's your take on paper filters vs. the gold screen one that comes with drip coffee makers (like the MT-500) ??

I myself like the gold coffee filters for two reasons: I think they give a fuller flavor to the coffee since they do not trap the coffee oils and they are more economical. The advantages to a paper filter is easier cleanup and very little sediment gets into your coffee. Ms. MillCreek, for example, hates the sediment, so I always make sure that I take the last cup out of the pot so she doesn't get any. I always use the gold filter, myself.

interesting. i have been using the gold filter too, since my old paper filters do not fit the MT-500. i think i'll just stick with it, it just amounts to an extra minute or two clean-up time. thanks again for the advice.

I've used the gold filter for the last 15 years in my Krups. The MT-500/600's gold filter is the same. Must be an international standard(?). I just tap the grounds into the compost pile with other kitchen waste and rinse. Helps keep the stink in the kitchen garbage can to a minimum.
