This is my first posting of a new thread. I purchased my first road bike in April and have never regretted it. My dad has a 70's cobra road bike that could use a little work. The front brake cable is detached from the handlebars and it needs new tubes and tires. My question is this, is the brake problem fixable by the LBS for under $50 and is there anything I should also check out on a bike that has not been ridden in 10 years? I was thinking of using it as a rain bike.
Thanks for any advice.

The brake cable issue depends on what cused the cable to come disconnectd in the first place. If the brake lever is broken, or if parts are missing, the repair will likely run over $50.00.
As for the rest, it just depends. On a bike that old, a lot of things may have happened to it and a lot of changes may have been done to it over the years. Lots of time on old, unused bikes the grease hardens up and all of the bearings have to be overhauled. You just have to go through it to know for sure.
