Okay, so I'm putting the feelers out there for anyone interested in Araya's hellishly cool 30mm deep section SA-530C rims - you know the ones, the ones nobody can get.
Well, I think I may be able to buy a box of two of them, and as you all know they are by far the coolest fixie rims on the planet. So, what I need to know is, is anyone interested? I need to know how many you'd be prepared to pre-pay, what sort of price you'd pay per rim, and what drilling you'd like.
If I can get them at a reasonable price and we call all agree on a drilling, then I might see what I can do. Whaddayasreckon?

Is there a site where we can read more about them? I found a Japanese site that showed just a cross-sectional view and it looks promising.

The last batch I got from Araya, was in a packet of 12, so if I went for 2 different drillings, I might have to get 12 of each. Anyway, I've sent off an e-mail and we'll see how we go. Man, I wish I could post this thread as a Sticky.
As for pix, I just have Arayas catalog from 1998 which I got in 2001 - it has a cross sectional drawing and a little ****ty picture of them. I can scan it it you want, bit it's a PITA.

Hey peeps,
Thanks for all the PMs and responses. Wow.
Okay, so this is what I've done. I've contacted my supplier in Japan, and they will get back to me shortly with all the details, price, timeframe etc. With any luck they'll be able to supply and things will go smooth.
If they can supply, I'll post all the details on this thread. After I do that, the rims will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis - whoever Paypals me first, gets the rims. I will only sell them in pairs, and at this stage I've asked for 32 hole only. ( If things go well, I'll order more in both 28 and 32 ).
Keep ya fingers crossed!

Well, could I be more disappointed?
Looks as though Araya is pretty much no more. I can get 'some' Araya rims, but no 700c rims AT ALL and just a limited number of crap generic rims. They're just not making them anymore.
My sneaking suspicion is, is that they have been bought out by Shimano. As I understand it, Araya makes the rims for the Shimano wheels, so I have a feeling Araya has just become a supplier of those rims and not much else. I'm finding out if this is true or not, just for fun.
I'm sorry I got everyone excited about getting these rims - I was fully under the impression my Japanese supplier could supply, but the damn things are discontinued. How stupid is that?

i knew they were discontinued, i just though you found someone with a secret stash or something..
what a friggen bummer though.
Is it possible that Araya still make rims for the home market only (Japan) that are not Shimano wheels?

i think they might still make 20" BMX rims. the super 7X was a great rim...as is the J-something or other...
perigrine mad max rims are still the **** though....

No, I was sourcing them straight from Japan. What amazes me though, is that Araya's Japanese made rims are some of the best in the world. If they didn't have their head up their butts, they hang with the quality of Mavic and DT easy. But like many Japanese companies, they dropped the ball and couldn't be bothered picking it back up. Or something. My contact just said that theiy're just producing rims for Shimano, and producing lower end stuff offshore somewhere now. He then politely in his very Japanese way told me to stop asking questions.
