Well, finally I have received ALL the equipment for my "8 Centuries in 8 Days" ride to the Grand Canyon (final item, sleeping bag came yesterday).
I loaded up my Bob trailer and did a weigh in.....I was worried that I would exceed 55 pounds (trailer and cargo) but was really happy when total cargo and trailer (minus water) weighed in at 38 pounds! My bicycle (30 spd alum. with carbon fork) fully equiped, weighed in at 21 pounds....I think that's a pretty efficient overall package considering I'm sleeping on the ground each night!

What do you all think? Am I accurate in my jubilation?

That's going to be one heck of a ride! So what does the trailer and dry bag weigh? 15lbs or so combined? If that's the case than that's only 23 lbs of camping gear and supplies. Not to shabby.

You're pretty close! 17 lbs for the trailer and bag. Sleeping bag:2 lbs, tent:3 lbs 4oz, mini toiletries: 4 oz....you get the picture, I know this sounds wierd but I'm actually thinking of packing my full size floor pump, it's 2.7 lbs but it would be SO EASY to always be running precise PSI with that unit!(clean hands, easy to read guage, etc.). I think I'll print up/post my final cargo list after I do a local "test century" with the loaded trailer.

with your load so light why bother with the trailer,you could pack everything into two reap panniers.

Haven't heard of these "reap panniers". Are they a new product?
