I ordered a pair of PerformanceŽ Gel Bib Shorts early last week and they came yesterday.
Surprise! The gel pad is like a waffle, with all sorts of molded holes in the pad, I guess to keep air moving down there. What the heck, I'll try anything once and I decided to wear them for my 65 mile ride today.

I have NEVER had so much butt pain as I did today. By the end of the ride, I was standing whenever I could, just to get off my butt.

When I finally (and mercifully) get home I find that I have about 10 circular red irritations on my tender butt - EXACTLY matching the holes in the pad. I am currently sitting (gently) on my Desitin covered behind, smelling like a 6 month old with a very bad diaper rash. This isn't mild irritation - my rear looks like hamburger and I will be off the bike for a few days at least.

I don't know if any of you have had the misfortune of receiving this particular insert. If not, I strongly, strongly advise against ordering anything with it inside.

I thought about sending them back, but I figure all the a** skin on them may prevent the return. Maybe I can wear them over another pair of shorts or maybe I should just throw them out and be done with them.

Live and learn.

Wash 'em and send them back.

They are good about returns.

I'm sure that somewhere in the bowels of Performance there is a computer that dutifully keeps track of every product that is sold. As long as those shorts are sold and not returned, that computer records that as a good selling item that shouldn't be messed with and dutifully reorders replacement stock for somebody else to buy.

Your DUTY to the brotherhood of bicyclists is to send those shorts back to save some other rider's tush.

Ouch! I just ordered two pairs of their women's shorts - same waffle concept, from what I hear. I'll make sure to try them out on a short ride, before I end up 30 miles out and completely out of maple syrup!

Your DUTY to the brotherhood of bicyclists is to send those shorts back to save some other rider's tush.

On my solemn oath to forever protect the rears of the brotherhood, I hereby swear to attempt to return the cheese grater waffle shorts.

So it is said. So it is done.

The Performance ULTRA bib shorts may be the better way to go. It was for me. Very comfy and no gel.
