I have been using Performance brand cloth tape on my older Araya rims. They use the 11mm wide tape that sits down inside an 11mm wide groove where the spoke holes are. Then, it kind of steps up and widens where the clincher edges are. Is there better rim tape than cloth type?
The tape has a tendency to migrate from its groove exposing the spoke holes before I can get it together and pumped up. I cleaned the rim thoroughly, and the tape doesn't use very sticky glue to hold it in place.
Would trying to mold in some wider tape help? Maybe some of the wider green "Slime" synthetic type? I am concerned about trying some wider tape though because the rims came with 11mm tape, and really don't look like they would accept wider stuff, unless I really molded it in there.
Any suggestions? I always thought the cloth tape was the best.
