Does it start this week since we just had the time change?

Yeah, it starts this week. Most of the big guns probably won't show or won't go hard since San Dimas Stage Race starts the next day.

I was thinking about going down to this. Do they meet up at the junction as soon as you get on the island and just park along the road? 6PM, right? Is it open to anyone who wants to try and keep up?
I'm going to enter my first Crit this weekend and this sounds like a good chance to practice getting dropped off the back.

They meet inside the island where the road splits and you go into the activity building. Just drive in and park on the side of the road and ride in. you can't miss it. not sure what it will be like this thursday though since the forecast calls for rain.

I went last night, and got dropped after 1-1/2 laps. Took a couple laps easy by myself to lower the HR, jumped on the back again. Got dropped again after 3/4 of a lap. Then I hooked onto a group of 3, got some good rotating paceline practice for a few laps.
There was probably 75-90 riders at the start. Good times, now I just gotta get faster.

Good to see you made it out. I got humbled pretty quickly when I started last year. The number of laps you can hold on is a pretty good indicator of your fitness and just how far you have yet to go.

How fast is this ride, anyways? Been thinkin' about comin' out, but don't want to get in anyone's way.

You won't be in anyone's way. There were several "recreational" cyclists using the island at the same time. If you can't keep up, you'll just be one of the recreational cyclists like me!
One guy I was talking with before the ride said the total ride average the previous week was just over 26 mph. For the lap and a half I hung on, the first lap was about 22-25 mph, my Garmin shows 31.4 mph when I got dropped.
Take those averages for what they are, but that should give you some idea of the pace.
