YC98H00843, is on the bottom of the frame... Can't make much sense of it.

I would guess that YC is the code fo the country or city in which the frame was built or it is the model and the location, one letter for each.. 98 is the year 1998. H is the 9th letter of the alphabet, Sept. is the 9th month of the year. 00843 is the production number of your bike.

Find a pic of a 1998 GT Mach One to test my theory.

Looks very similar, not the cable guides on the non drive side of the top tube?
