i am looking to upgrade my fork to a plusher, lighter, higher performing fork. what do you all suggest for under 200? i can get the manitou x-vert air 2k1 for 169.00 for a limited time only. other suggestions?

I would go with a regular Xvert. Pricepoint has them for $149.00.
Universal has the 2000 xverts for $119.00 in yellow.
You do know that a longer fork will raise your front end up and slacken your headtube angle, slowing the steerer a bit.
Btw the Manitou Xverts are my favorite forks ever. I have owned a couple and just ordered another one from Universal.

I have to say get the regular X-Vert also. It isn't that heavy. I bought one from Pricepoint for 149 myself, and I love it. I was a little dissapointed at first, but that was because it wasn't broken in and my shifters broke soon after I had the fork installed. But now it is broken in and I love it, it soaks up bumps like a sponge soaks up water.

I personally don't like air forks. Yeah they have more adjustment options, but they seem to be less durable, and higher maintenance. If you want to keep looking around try to find a Marzocchi, Phattire.com usually has some good deals. But I really think you will be pleased with the X-vert. If you want air, go for it.

On the Xvert air fork it is not a total air spring. It is coil with an air assist. The air spring provides a more progressive rate at the end of the travel to prevent harsh bottoming. It is a great idea in theory (my Stratos Helix pro rear shock works on the same idea) but I have heard of a few people with these forks blowing the air cartridges. If you are wanting a lighter fork than the regular Xvert, try and find a deal on the Xvert Super. It is the same fork as the Air but with a coil/mcu spring instead of coil/air.
