It might help to mention what world recored you are attempting to set.
...It's the fastest round the world trip by bicycle. His schedule is basically 3 months of double centuries each day.

So let me get this straight.. as mentioned above.... "on his push bike"... are you Alan Bate or a person pretending to be him? Because your first post most surly says... "I'm about to embark"... meaning that the poster and Alan Bate are one and the same.....
Curious. Sounds like a hell of a ride.

Looking at your route it appears you go from Greece then to Dubai for a day and then to India--not really sure how that is around the world when you are skipping a huge chunk of it
Not really sure how Australia fits into all of this either. Not trying to be difficult, it looks like an amazing ride but don't understand what the record is

Guinness states that you have to complete 18,000 miles in an Eastern direction, yes i i will be flying across some areas but i will still be covering the distance and spending more time in other countries.

Now I know how Australia fits in too

It's a fantastic achievement/attempt and very interesting, but more of a long distance endurance event than touring.

You don't pass Middle east countries at all. You just ride in Dubai. It is like riding in Toronto and claiming that you have ridden across Canada.

Stop giving him a hard time. I don't see you trying to do this.

Good luck and stay safe! My ass hurts just thinking about it.
This is awesome! Good luck!
I notice on your route map that you will be passing very near us in Massachusetts (USA). I will be following your blog and schedule and hope to see you when you come through...do you have any rough idea as to when you will be in the Boston area?

Good luck! We are on a world record attempt too, but for hte youngest rather than fastest so can take it slow and easy!
The guidelines from Guinness simply give an amount of miles that you have to cycle and it's up to the person riding to figure out his/her own route. Depending on the route chosen it could be a HUGE advantage over choosing a bad route. They're guidelines are sometimes pretty bizarre - we are attempting to break the record for "Cycling the Pan American Highway" but we don't need to ride even one mile on the actual Pan Am! We just have to start and finish in two stated towns.

Could I than ride around the block x mount of times and qualify?
But good luck on your adventure alanbate, we will be following your progress.

No - you do actually have to go around the world, but you can pick and choose which countries you want to ride in. If you take into considerations things like wind direction, road quality, and frequency of flights, you can take days off your time.

We met Alan in Malaysia in 2008. At that time, he was hoping to do it in about 170 days, so he's aiming a fair bit higher now! I can't even imagine the stamina needed to do something like that. The interview we did with him is here, if anyone is interested:
