Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - 3'rd Annual Northeast Mpls drunken bar bike tour

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

This might not be the right forum for this, but it's the only forum I really hang out at, or know any Mpls rider's hang out at.It starts at Behind Bar's bicycle shop at 4pm(free BBQ)September 12. Then going to 13 bar's starting at 6:00 ending up at Grumpy"s at 1:00.Sounds like alot of fun-I'll be on Sat ride on the 4th to show Sat rider's the schedule, for most of them don't visit BF.Might be a good hang over ride after Sat 11th ride.Have bar's list and time's if interested-obviously I'am not putter savvy.
I'd better go turn in a PTO request form, shouldn't I?

What's that?
Paid Time Off. I work sunday nights at 10 - I doubt they'd want me in after going to 13 bars :)

I went on the 3rd lower bike tour last spring (lower north east.. this ride is the upper n.e.) and it was a blast.. 60 or so people packing into little bars and getting loaded leaving huge piles of bikes locked to everything in site.. i can remember a few people crashing but everyone seemed alright and no trouble with the law.. ive been looking forward to the 3rd upper all summer
and the only choice i have left is what to ride my old SS tandem or the fixie :)
hope to see you there
Here's the flyer for the tour (http://www.behind-bars.com/tourpage01.htm) posted on Behind Bars' website.

wow this sounds like fun.
Just a reminder that this is going on this weekend. See yaz!
Ok, please explain this. You meet and eat and ride to bars (some seem very close to each other - like across the street)? When it says 6:00 at this bar and 7:00 at that bar, does that mean you have an hour to get there or you hang out for an hour?
Either way, I need to do this. I am very jealous.
Think you can get out here by sunday?

How about posting some pics of the drunken debauchery?
I'd have to have a camera... maybe I can get Goatmeal's for the night...

Three of us thinking of coming up. Will have a Digital camera so we know where we were...LOL
You should do it. Hell, you should come up for the sat night ride too! 9 pm, Mc Donald's parking lot in Dinkytown... Last weekend was a blast. The funest part was the gridlock at the state fair... man those cars were pissed at us - probably 20-25 bikes just booking down the dotted white line passing everyone as they stood still - even the cops directing traffic were smiling!

I have some up from the last one;

And I plan on taking an arseload more. See you all tonight!
WOW!!!!
Pics will be coming soon, but I think that was the most fun I've ever had on a bike! There were probably close to 100 riders. I think the only types of bikes not represented were recumbents and big wheels (yeah, there was even a unicyclist for 2 stops!) We pretty much filled every bar to capacity at each stop - it was freakin NUTS!!! We had 3 guys ride through the stop that was at a bowling alley - it was hard to even walk in there, let alone ride... Others are still out there riding - last I saw, most were headed for the strip club. Gilby and I bailed a little early after stopping at the last stop before it got too crazy.
I think we should do this type of ride at least once a month. Hopefully I actually have money for the next one. Kind of surprised to get drunk, stoned and eat with no money...
C'mon Minneapolis - we need much much much more of this!!!!!!!!!!
Tictac counted 180 bikes at The Sample Room.
'twas a blast.
The ride was awesome! More than I've had to drink in a long time (and a 9 am class to get to this morning), so it's probably best for me that it doesn't happen more frequently :p

Yeah I wasn't able to hang as long as I would have liked to with you freaks, I had to get back on the bike @ 6:30 to work this morning. I did have fun on the 5 stops I made it for, it was still a little difficult to wake this morning though.
Funny how making a bike tree seems like a good idea, till you want to leave..
Phil
Hehehehe.. I had to drive back to Wisconsin to work. I went to sleep around 3ish and managed to get up at 7:30. Needless to say, my body wasn't very happy with me. The drive was painful, yet uneventful. I should have my pictures up later this week.
All I can say is more power to you. I did a clean and sober run with a couple friends out to Wayzata and back, with stops at a couple coffee joints. There are times when I wonder if this sobriety thing is worth it, cause mad sick fun like a drunken bar ride, well...
I couldn't make the bike ride the other weekend. Just wondering if adapting a ride idea from our neighbor to the south might be worthy.
Better late than never, right? Finally got some pics of this off of my brother's camera:
Here are a few of the bike tree we built :

The outside of a couple of bars :

The bar with a shot up door from a police car, signed by the regulars of the bar. It was too packed, and they were doing Karaoke, so I left :

A few guys thought it would be fun to ride their bikes through a standing room only bar :

Some random people at the same bar that friends of ours knew :

Gilby and I got stuck outside a bar for an eternity because of the BMX in the foreground locking to her. The green bike is Chuck's from our saturday night ride - I still don't know how he can ride with his seat like that.

A friend of my brothers. She claimed it was the first time she tried beer. Normally it's vodka and wine. She did have vodka, too. The fall was intentional - she decided to lie down when it was revealed that we were waiting for 2 people to disassemble the bike tree - no-one could leave until they left the bar.

Hope you all enjoy - that was a blast...
Now who's doing the next one? We got northeast out of the way, what about north, northwest, west, southwest, south, and south east? I think St Paul has quite a few directions, too! Then there are suburbs... This really needs to be at least a quarterly thing, or at least monthly... Of course weekly would be good too... :)

I may have been hit in the head with a mortar round, but I am not that dumb! :D
Ugh, I remember that %*&@in' purple BMX. Probably a good thing I didn't try to ride both bikes home...

I have no idea then. I just noticed from the bag the guy's wearing in that pic that it's probably one of the guys that rode through the bar...

I'd have to agree with you there. Especially since you wanted to ride the bmx - the pedals on your Bianchi would have been hitting you in the calf a lot. If I remember right, you did have quite a few guys offereing to ride it to the the next bar for you though...

Dood, your going on about her socks!?! If only you knew about her pink Circle A track bike! Yup.
Thanks, for somehow leaving me out of the bowling alley biking pictures, word. The best part
is the three of us were 'kicked out'! We re-entered (sans-bicycles) wearing hats, foiling the 'bouncer'.

Someone locked their bike to his and couldn't be located. He simply took off to the next bar. (I forgot his name.. my bad)
Whew, I (mostly) managed to avoid the camera!

dammit...that looks to be the best ride ever. Tons of mayhem to be had, or watched, or caused. Or not.
Honestly pretty tame, for the most part. Definatly drunken.
DOOD, those are ill, looks like a sick night. As far as other nights, there are bars all over MPLS proper you didn't hit, CC Tap, Liquor Lyle's, Nye's Polonaise, Jack's from "Fargo, and what about Matt's for Juicy Lucy's, now that would produce some technicolor yawns. Did you guys forget ghetto, and the Starlight Lanes?
I may not drink any more, but I do remember some of the better spots to get thrown out of. Oh to have Moby's back, now that was a bar to be tossed out of.
Yeah, North East would be fun too, Archie's Bunker, that's a great biker bar. You've got me thinking about the bars I used to frequent. Argh.

Let me know if anyone ever wants me to give them the St. Paul bar tour. I know all of the dive bars. I can even give a 3.2 tour for you sober folks out there. But for you slow moving saturday night riders, the condition is that you have to get to St. Paul before last call; not every dive bar can afford to stay open as late as those trendy Mpls. pubs.
Slow moving saturday night riders. You're gonna get spanked for that one.

I'll wear my buttless pants just for you. I would warn you that I'd be blowin' kisses (those beans are tasty), but you'd be too far back to smell them, so it would be pointless.
As for that "gentlemens" club tour idea...Portland, Oregon would be the place for that. More strip clubs per capita than any other city in the country. Now there's something to boast about.
Yeah - where were the pics from the strip club? I had to miss that one :(

Umm... bring it. I hope to see you tomorrow, either in Dinkytown at 21:00 or at 5th Ave. S. and the Greenway trail at 19:30. I'll try to put 30 miles or so on the legs to warm up first.
