For those that ride on the C&O Canal, Washington-Cumberland
Looking for recommondations for riding multi-day on the canal towpath. Would something like the Fuji touring (tire w/some tread) be a good choice or a mountain bike with its wider tire (2in). Not sure if its credit card tour or camping, but I want to select bike type first, and then its ability to carry, and lastly its versatility for general riding.
Thanks in advance for your advise,
Tourtrek

Hi tourtrek,

I did a 2 day C&O trip on my mongoose hybrid, a crappy old thing with typical hybrid tires, and I was totally fine. The path is pretty even (make sure to take the detour around great falls if you're near DC).

the C&O is great! hiker/biker campsights every 5 miles or so. enjoy!

For those of us without local knowledge, evidentally, the C&O refers the the Chesapeake and Ohio canal.

A good website that has a mile by mile description of the C&O canal ride is the www.bikewashington.org I used it when I did the ride a few years back.
