Im a roadie, and know very little when it comes to mountain bikes..

My sister is in the lookout for a new bike (she wants a hardtail), and came to me for advice, knowing i know A LOT when it comes to ROAD BIKES...

Im stumped, and was looking around, she is looking in the $5-600 range, and i came across this...

Is this a decent buy? Seems pretty good to me all around for the price...
But what are your thoughts?

Yeah, that's a fine bike. But have her test out as many bikes as she can in that price range, from as many companies as she can, because it's just like road bikes, where one company's bike might fit her better than another company's bike. And don't limit her search to WSD bikes. The only women's bike I own is my road bike...all my other bikes are unisex/men's versions, just because they fit and rode better for me.

+1

There are a lot of decent bikes in that price range. It shouldn't be too tough for her to find a good one that fits. Also, she can get a really nice used bike in that range too. Just something to think about.

You linked the Bow site so I'm guessing you're from Calgary. If you are, tell her to go down to Bow and talk to Franzky. They have a massive selection right now so tell her to ride everything in and just above her price range. The best one(s) should become obvious. If she ends up with a couple of preferred options, BF can help identify pros/cons of the options.

Check a local REI as well. they have a few good entry level bikes. They also have fairly smokin deals online in the outlet close outs. Try the bikes at REI, order it online.
