Mountain Biking - Stuck on types of lube for various bike parts

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. All these stores seem to have some proprietary brand of a 4 oz pixie stick toothpaste tube for whatever grease or lube one may need for their bike.

My question is where can I find out what kind of generic lube to use for things like
-Suspension linkage/bushings
-Bottom bracket
-Hubs
-Headset

I have a tube of Park grease that I use for anything needing grease. Pro Link Gold for anything needing oil.

Bottom bracket should be sealed and possibility that the hubs and headset could have sealed bearings aswell. They do not need greasing till they run dry and then change them.

Grease for headset and Hubs and I can still get the "BlackGold" grease over here. For everything else- Chain- Brake pivot points and Cables I use Chain lube. Not Certain about Suspension Linkage and bushes as I use a hard tail- but torn between a Moly Grease or the chain lube for that.

I believe the OP wants to know what sort of no-bike-specific lube is suitable, so that he can buy some in bulk.

I do know that Park's grease can be had in tubs for a much cheaper per-ounce price than in the tubes.

I don't know enough about grease to really answer the OP's question though.

Thanks, somehow I missed the tubs on Park's site, that's a good option until we can figure out what generic types of grease are used for certain bike areas.

I've been using Park's grease for everything -- bottom brackets, headsets, bolt threads, seatposts, what have you. I buy the tubes and use them with one of these:

Buying by the tube is more expensive, but I don't go through all that much in a year for the cost to really matter much.

For thread lube (grease those threads!), I like synthetic marine white lithium -- cheap and easy to find.

For bearings, etc., I like Slick 50 One grease, followed by Park 1000. I also coat cables with it before installing.

For chain lube, I use either Mobil 1 0W-20 or stainless cleaner/polish in spray. To lube pivots, the spray works best for me.
