Tandem Cycling - What is this tandem?

Help. Tandem Geek perhaps? We picked this up at the local bike collective last weekend. I liked it because of the springer front fork and I'm thinking about restoring it, but there is no badge on the head tube so I don't have any idea what kind of tandem this is. Schwinn perhaps? Any guess anyone?

I'd call it a death machine: "Look Mum, no brakes! Aaaaggghhh! [Splat!]" It may have a coaster brake (pedal backwards to engage) but they are barely functional on a single bike, let alone on a tandem.

Super cool bike, but I don't recognize it. I can say it's not a Schwinn though. Looks a little bit like a Huffy Daisy, but it's not one of those either...

I have a Columbia Twosome that was equipped with a coaster brake and a flexy old caliper on the front. The first thing I did to it was replace the front fork with one that accepted V-brakes. The coaster is weak, but not useless (it probably would be if we had any hills.) Should be fun to ride!

While it won't stop on a dime my fully restored 1963 Schwinn Bicycle Built for Two stops fine with a coaster brake and single caliper in the front :-)

I don't know what make it is, but it sure looks like it will be a sweet project bike to work on! :thumb:

... a tandem with coaster brakes may seem like a Death Machine, but for a Hawkeye (a resident of Iowa), brakes may not be such a big deal. Here for example is a video of the highest point in Iowa.

Sorry to be pedantic (and a bit late), but that is actually the Stelvio pass, which is in Italy. The majority of one of the three ways to climb the pass is in Switzerland, but the top and the side you showed are completely in Italy. Even so, the Swiss roads are not much different. Here's a shot of a couple of my favorites, the Grimsel and Furka passes, which are in Switzerland. I don't think I could ever live in a place lie Iowa again after being spoilt by living here (I did live in Illinois for a few years, so I do have some idea of what it's like).

You know, I did look for a while to find an example of vertiginous cycling roads in Switzerland, and rejected the Stelvio pass once as it was in Italy. This image came up, I think at Flickr, but without a caption. It got tagged Switzerland, as it is on the border, and so I assumed, which is once again proven to be a mistake.
