So, it's still cold here in the Midwest, and my roommate has a bunch of frequent-flyer miles that are about to expire. We're thinking of spending next week (spring break for us) in San Fran. Are there any swap meets/fun events coming up? Unfortunately, we won't be able to bring bikes with us, so serious riding is out of the question. Also, can anyone recommend fun bike shops in the Bay Area to dig around in? (I'm particularly looking to buy used parts, mostly of the 70s road bike and 80s/90s MTB variety, and there are probably things that are much more common in CA than in WI) Other local attractions? I haven't been to SF in over 15 years, so I have no idea...

I think that you'd be crazy to pass up some of the riding around here. There are several shops that rent some pretty decent bikes.

There are many places to rent bikes, by the wharf you can rent a decent bike to head over the Golden Gate bridge, through Sausalito over to Tiburon and take the ferry back - easy/fun ride, nice views. As far as eclectic bike shops, the economy took a toll, along with the wave of carbon bikes. I suspect if you do some web surfing you can find some old school shops that have bins of vintage and odd parts. I miss these shops, maybe someone can name a few shops that are riding out he storm.
