Well, another question on my new "old" bike. Just wondering if down the road its worth getting discs on this bike. Its an older Trek but the bosses for discs are on the opposite chain stay and not on the seat stays. Are these different type of discs hookups or are they the same?

That is an older 22mm Hayes mount. Those older Hayes 22mm calipers are about all you'll get to fit, unless you find/make an adapter and somehow manage to shoehorn something else in there.

Those older mounts/calipers get harder and harder to find, as well.

IMO, run a mullet. Disc front/v-brake rear, and don't sweat a disc in the rear until you have a frame with more up to date mounts.

Ugh, oh well. Glad I asked so now I don't have to think about it! Hahaa!

2 options:

Requires that you remove your skewer completely when you take off the rear wheel.

Requires hydraulic discs b/c the mechanical arm bumps into the seatstay:

Option 3: Nearly free with a piece of 6061 angle and some elbow grease - -

Thanks for the info guys! But that's way too much McGuyver'ing for me! Hahaha. I'll just trash the v-brakes and frame and have fun with it!

That's an A2Z adapter - AD-PMR:

Your shop should be able to get it for you.

Oh okay, that's a different thing. I need it for my specialized. I could pick up an aluminum rockhopper frame from a friend for a hundred, but I really like my steel frame. It's heavy, has rust, and is flexy, but I love it. I just wish it had disc tabs.

You would need this A2Z for that - - a DM-UNI:

. . . or get yourself a piece of aluminum and build a shark-fin.

Yeah, I figure for half the price of the new frame almost I might as well do that or stick to the V. Oh well.

I don't suppose you know how to weld or braze, do you? Steel would be relatively easy to add a mount to.

No idea.
