Hi there,

I'm looking for route suggestions for overnight trips from Baltimore (proper or Owings Mills or BWI). Harpers Ferry, Gettysburg, Southern PA, Michaeux State Forest. . . I'd be OK doing about 60, maybe 70 miles a day.

thanks!!

EE

I've got some Baltimore excursion routes here: http://www.baltimorespokes.org/staticpages/index.php?page=20070815081612328 that you may be interested in.

If you're interested stop by the northeast regional forum and say hi in the "Where are the MD people's" thread.

do either of you guys have tips for riding out to ocean city? I'd like to start my cross-country trip out on the eastern shore, either OC, MD or Fenwick Island, DE.

Suggestion: Try the Northern Central Railroad Trail and York County Heritage Rail Trail. It starts just north of Cockeysville and goes all the way to York, PA

Fueled by Boh,

the problem is getting on the other side of the Bay. I would advise highly using the Tangier Ferry. You will see a wonderful island town that is very unqiue.

Of course, you can always try to get a ride across one of the bridges or swing way to the north and cross that way. The Bay Bridge used to do a service to get your bike across but I think it was discontinued.

I've got a couple of Ocean City Routes on the second map here: http://www.baltimorespokes.org/staticpages/index.php?page=20070815081612328

Additionally you could PM NoRacer he rides to Ocean City every year and has a nice route worked out.

I know both routes pretty much but it's been a few years.

Leg 1 isn't that bad, quite a bit of traffic on MD 30, but you should have a wide shoulder for a good deal of it. The PA part should be rolling farmland until you hit the park and much lighter traffic.

Leg 2 will have a lot of hills. If that's not a problem, I think your route is great on that stretch. At least your end of the day will be a huge downhill right into Thrumont.

Good wishes.

I'll be coming through Baltimore on a tour this May, and I think we'll be coming in mostly via the rails-to-trails in that area. Having not yet been on it, I can't recommend it as a good or bad route, but it seems pretty nice from what I've heard. Maybe consider doing a little bit of riding on that?
