Classic & Vintage - Peugeot Mountain bikes (early/mid 90's?)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Ok I have a bike that I cannot find ANY information on anywhere. Its sort of an oddball in that it has a wierd mix of more modern specs and some stuff you would see on much earlier bikes... internet searches yield nothing, and haven't seen one on ebay in over a year of watching.

Peugeot DBS 500 "Edition Limitee"
Made in Canada
4130 main tubes
1 1/8th" threaded headset
Semi-horizontal dropouts (this and the above reason are why it became my SS!)
29.2 seat post
Spacing for the brake bosses seems a bit odd, as I have to use a slew of spacers to get the pads to touch the rims when I'm using V-brakes.

Frame appears to be bonded... no visible welds or no smoothing like a double pass weld. Makes me a little nervous when I'm in the air, but so far so good.

I think it originally had Exage or something on it... it was a salvaged frame so it was kinda stripped when I got it.

Just curious if anyone knows anything about these... everyone thats seen it has been stumped by it and intrigued.

I have a Peugeot MTB frame as part of my landfill retrieval project, I'll check later and see what model it is. Peugeots built in Canada were made by what is now Procycle, who make CCM, Rocky Mountain, Oryx, etc. Their website is at www.procycle.com. You might be able to contact someone there and ask some questions. I have a Velo Sport touring bike which this company made, and I have not been able to find much info on it, but have not tried contacting the manufacturer. Good Luck!!

DBS....Double Brazing System 500 = 50cm The frame is internally and externaly brazed therefore you'll see no welds. Generic entry level bike. Nothing to write home about.
The brake bosses are normal spacing for its vintage.

Thanks a lot Jim... that info helped A LOT... I feel like I finally know something about the bike. I have always been under the impression that canti-spacing is the same on any bike regardless of vintage... is this not accurate? Low end or not, I'm glad to know its actually brazed not bonded... it makes a KILLER budget singlespeed with the dropouts and 1 1/8 headtube.

Seely, I cant say for 100% certainty that the boss spacing is the same for all vintages. The spacing may have changed with the introduction of V-brakes, the most significant design change in decades.
