Hey All,
So, I'm a little perplexed, I noticed that on my small double cross frame I'm ready to build up, that the routing for the rear brake cables looks pretty odd. This is the canti frame, not the disc. There is a stop for the brake housing at the front at the top tube, but not one at the back. Instead there is a metal noodle welded on, that it looks like the brake cable is just supposed to route through, before it attaches to the yoke. After extensivly searching for pics and blowing them up... this seems correct, can anyone verify? It looks like the only place where housing can exist for the rear brake is coming from the lever and into the first stop. Then the cable looks like it runs at a slight angle down the length of the toptube, through the little metal tube and straight to the yoke... no rear housing.
Maybe I've seen this before but it seems odd... esp to have the cable run at a slight angle over the top tube. Soma has NOTHING about this on their website, my next move is to ask them. Because I've seen them mess up frames before, I could see them missing the brake stop that seems like it should be welded on the rear. I mean, I do really like their products, but I had a smoothie with an incorrectly welded rear brake bridge.
Ugh... being a small rider kinda sucks sometimes! :notamused: Things get all wonky and compromised with geometry and routhing and it can get confusing.
Thanks for any help.

Pics are probably more helpful than all those words. Here are some pics of the rear routing braze on, near the seat post. There is a stop for housing that would make sense for v brake routing, but not for canti.

Housing should stop at first housing stop near headtube and exposed cable should run all the way down toptube through brazed on guide and into brake straddle cable. Helps to put a small piece of teflon tubing for cable to run through braze on. Not uncommon on older mountain bikes, hybrids, or smaller frames in general. Good luck!

Hey, Thanks. That is what I figured... I'd prefer a cleaner routing, but I guess now at least I can quit questioning it. Do you have the double cross?
