I was an extreme bike rider for years did real crazy stuff. Anyway, April 1997 I was seventeen years old, some friends and I decided to go up to the mountains and ride some serious trails. I use to love to go off trail and ride throw the trees and rocks I never thought much about it. I was going down this water made path and for some bright reason I decided to lanch off a hugh rock without thinking twice about it. I flew about three stories down and landed in some rough bushes and rocks. I should be dead, compound fractrue on my right leg, broke my coller bone, extreme bleeding from my left hip ripped my muscle down to the bone, and knocked out a front tooth also I was unconscious. Thank god, two of my friends followed behind me and watched my dumb a#$ jump. Amazingly, I land near the bike trail. My friends managed to pull me down the mountain and get me into the car. They drove me to the a hospital, where I laid in a three day coma. We all had first aid classes; which, by the way payed off. When I woke up the doctor said I should be dead the only thing that saved my life was the fact that my friends where there, my neck was not broken and I held onto the bike. He asked me what was I thinking to be able to hold on the bike like that. I told him, If this is going be my last jump let's make it a good one also please god I'm to young to die, Devine Intervention I guess. It has been seven years know and I'm fully recovered and able to ride a bike again. Maybe I won't be WAY TWO EXTREME. Hence, Maybe......

Good, All recovered

Glad to hear that. Well mountain biking, half the fun is just doing what you do - jumps, fire roads, skinnies, and the works. But the other half is fear (ph34r). As you're going throught the jump you get that whoop-ass feeling (aka adrenaline) and it's just awesome when you land it.

Awesome.

I ALWAYS check the landings because I hit stuff.

I know I should have looked before I jumped, but I use get so entranced with the trials that the only thing going threw my head was what is the next best thing. I know it was a stupid thing to do, but if I had to do all over again. I do not think I would trade it for the world. I faced death and in the end laughed. I was at the top of the game and thought nothing could stand in my way. You also have to remember I was seventeen and invincible. I bet you will never experience the rush that went threw my head, I hope you never have to, But if you could without having to face death it is the best experience a person can have...

You basically did a cardinal sin by not looking, and paid for it. Glad to see you're back on the bike.

I hate the word extreme I must say. What you did was stupid, and you were lucky. Guys that go big almost always are very experienced and the guys who you see at the X-Games (extreme?) do some of the craziest tricks in the world, and then ride away. When you see them fall, they almost never break bones or anything.

Yeah, some guys are just crazy and do stupid stuff, but most practice into foam pits or on resin covered ramps. They do a lot of smart stuff along the way to becoming extreme. Gung-ho attitudes are a sure fire way to end up in a coma for a lot longer than 3 days. I am really psyched that you came out okay, but you can be still be extreme... just don't be stupid at the same time. :)

What dude did was stupid, stupid, stupid, But I've have been riding a long time and have rode with some of the big boys. They don't always do the smartest things. I've bet you have done some stupid things in your riding career. bike riders get hurt that is part of the game, and yes the pro's break bones they would have never became pro without doing it at least once in there life. As for Pmelon, what the hell where you thinking you basically servived jumping off the back side of a mountain without a parachute. You are a lucky person so don't temp faith again our you might end up on the wrong end. :fight:
