Alt Bike Culture - short reach to long reach adapter?

so all i have a univega just through some new 700c wheels, new paint, headset and bars... and grabbed some new brakes i really liked but they are short reach and they are about 3mm short and catching alil tire does anyone know of any adapters to help me reach or any creative ideas?

If it's only barely hitting the tire you can shave some rubber off of the top of the brake pad.

"Drop bolts" used to be common. Now they are less so but still available. The Campagnolo ones turn up on Ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/Campagnolo-1cm-Drop-Bolt-Dual-Pivot-Front-Rare-NOS_W0QQitemZ300372002765QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCycling_Parts_Accessories?hash=item45ef9107cd) fairly regularly, and there is a guy who makes them and sells them (http://cgi.ebay.com/Bicycle-Brake-Dropbolt-new-drop-bolt_W0QQitemZ160415338226QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCycling_Parts_Accessories?hash=item25597fcef2) on Ebay as well. Expect to pay $60-$80 dollars apiece.

Sheldon Brown has a short article (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/home-drop.html) on managing the problem, though his solution is amazingly unattractive.

I have also used a round file to elongate the hole in the calipers and had no problems. You will have to make your own decision about whether that is safe and/or possible for your situation, of course.

At the cost for drop bolts Six jours mentioned it may be cheaper to get the correct reach brakes. Harris Cyclery lists a variety of different reach dual pivot brakes and the Tektros would probably be cheaper than the drop bolts if you cannot modify your current calipers to give enough reach. Shimano also still makes medium reach dual pivot brake calipers.

Since you went to the trouble to repaint your frame and did all that work I'd try to swap out the calipers you got with ones of correct length. If you cannot do that then go for the Drop Bolts rather than jury rigging them on there.
